Humdistat Sensor Filters and Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR)
    #22344974 - 10/07/15 11:49 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I would like to discuss the 10A 110V Digital Air Humidity Control Controller MH130010A and the sensor.

A common problem that many experienced growers mention with these units is the sensor becoming clogged with spores and debris.

RR has mentioned using tyvek as a filter by wrapping it around the sensor but as far as I know was never able to get around to it.

His concern was that the tyvek would cause a humidity gradient between the inside of the sensor housing and the fruiting chamber.

I am trying to find a way to calculate the gradient after a 24hr period using the Water Vapor Transmission Rate of a square foot of Tyvek Commercial Wrap© at standard temperature and pressure and humidity starting at 0% inside the sensor housing and 100% in the fruiting chamber.

If the WVTR of my tyvek is 28 perms and a perm is listed as 1 grain of water vapor per hour, per square foot, per inch of mercury, how would i go about calculating the difference of the two humidities?

I understand the temperatures, humidities, and pressure effect the permiability but I still do not know how to utilize the perm rating to figure out exactly how innacurate the humidistat should be in a theoretical sense after 24hr at standard room temp and pressure and an initial gradient of 100% with a square foot of tyvek.

If we can find a way to calculate the inaccuracy in certain conditions and adjust our reading and humidistat accordingly these devices could be used more frequently without the added expense of replacement sensors.

While cycle timers are good enough they are very annoying to adjust and could never maintain the conditions as accurately as +/-1%

Any help is appreciated and if I am missing anything let me know, i'll keep trying to calculate the gradient and will update this post if I am able to come up with a believeable number :lol:

:pm::thumbup:

Do you have issues with accuracy and spores effecting the sensor? I would really like your opinion on how durable humidity controllers are. Not many people have messed with them.
