Hey Shroomery! This is my first time harvesting Fly Agarics and I believe it is a pretty easy ID, but just wanted some opinions from those who are more experienced with ID and Amanita Muscaria at that. I've lost two caps already to pesky little white worms appearing two days after harvest And devouring a whole cap into mush over night, so any advice on storage And drying Fly Agarics is much appreciated as well. Usually with Cubies, I place them on rice and in direct circulation of a fan and they dry out in two days. But these Amanitas are HUGE ! And very wet at that. Thanks in advance.
Habitat: Southern Pennsylvania (hour south of Harrisburg). Growing under pines after three days of heavy rain and temperature drop. 20 yards from shore of lake.
Gills: White, crowded, narrowly attached or free.
Stipe: Thick, white with some yellow tints. Does not bruise any specific color, just darKens. Concentric rings (2-4) directly above bulbous base.
Cap: Large, ranging from 3" to 8" diameters. Yellow to orange color, darkening towards center of cap to a more red-orange. Warts are white.
Spore print color: White.
Bruising: No color, just darkens. Shows up as a dark yellowish hint on bruised area of stipe.
Other information: No apparent scent. Growing individually or in pairs.

If I'm correct, I think I drive by that lake twice a week...right next to the interstate. Those are some beautiful mushrooms by the way...and totally legal.
