How long can mature mycelium inhabit a PF jar?
    #2234264 - 01/11/04 04:26 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Per PF Tek...

If I have mature mycelium cakes in jars, how long can they stay in the jars before birthing? Can they stay an extra month?

Thanks!

they will most likly start to pin invitro after awhile, even without exposure to light.also they will lose moisture content.

Thanks for your replies!

Has anyone here ever actually /done/ this? Leave cakes inside the jars after they're ready to be birthed?

I've left them in the jar for months with no problem as long as there in a cool place. They don't have to be in the frig.you can put them in your cellar if it's cool but not below freezing.Just dunk them when you birth to replace water loss.

Do you think they'd be ok to sit in a non-insulated attic (where they cannot be moved or attended to) for 2 months during the spring? i live near the Virginia/North Carolina border.

2 months seems like a long time.

Why are you waiting on the birthing?

If it's because you can't consume them now I highly recommend just birthing them now, drying them, and then storing in your favorite method (I like to grind and cap 'em)

The cakes will need to sit two months (starting just after innoculation) because it will not be convenient to birth them until that much time has passed.
