What are psychedelics like?

Like this: Once, about 20 years ago, I was mowing a lawn.About halfway through the job I noticed something up ahead, just out of the path of my little Cub Cadet riding mower. When I came abreast of the object, I saw that it was a toad. It was sitting right in the stream of cut grass being blasted out the ejection port by the blades whirling under the mower deck. I sat there watching the toad who seemed to be caught in a quandry--he wasn't moving but he seemed tense, worried. Suddenly he jumped--right into the stream of  ejected grass coming from the deck. A nano second later he was lying in at least 50 pieces on the lawn.

Of course, the simile  is not completely accurate. The toad, like Humpty Dumpty, never got put together again. The tripper usually gets reassembled somehow by the end of his ride. Sometimes he's even the better for the experience.

I mean, it blows my mind that people around here use these subtances for giggles. Hey! These guys mean business! Treat them lightly at your own peril.Pull the trigger again and again. Five times out of six you'll get away with it.

UG Krishnamurti used to tell people who came to ask him about enlightenment: "You don't want that. It is very destrutive. It's like a Trojan Horse--looks very pretty, but there is a squad of killers hidden inside it whose job is to rape and pillage and burn everything in sight."

I disagree. I certainly treat them with respect and as a spiritual thing nowadays.
The deeper your awareness grows the easier these things are to handle too.
I can do huge doses and be able to carry out a conversations almost as if I was sober. When I first did them it was like getting split up but as I've come to understand my different parts human and divine nature I no longer feel that way. In fact a feel more whole than ever.
Some shamans use these almost every day or a few times a week. They talk with the plants and learn the healing arts.

Edit: I don't think there's anything wrong with using them for fun either that's how I got started. If I wouldn't of done that I would be in a very bad place.

Psychedelics can be used in anyway the person feels fit. I personally use them as a spiritual tool for self growth but I don't judge those that use them for fun.

We each have to speak out of our own experience. I am glad for you. It is good that you have learned respect. I wrote this post not to discourage use. I wrote it to encourage careful handling.

I have never used them for fun. Jesus! Fun? Are you kidding? They are a workout!

I don't know any shamans so I can't speak for them. I recall reading an interview recently, a Siberian Shaman who said she much preferred to be sober.

I think we should ask mushrooms to teach us to be independent of them, so that we can operate in the world without constant recourse to strong drugs to learn our lessons. Mushrooms are like going to school--there comes a time when you graduate.

Tell me, when you see someone fooling with a gun they don't know is loaded, is it judging to advise them of the gun's condition?

I used to know a doctor who, during WW2, treated gunshot wounds. He said no one should be allowed to own a gun who hadn't been shown up close and personal just what an undressed, fresh gunshot wound looks like. He seemed to think it was  anything but a lol.
