Possible Psilocybe squamosa

Habitat: SWIM found some healthy specimens growing in the woods in middle Tennessee. All of these specimens were growing in close proximity (within a 3 foot diameter) of a fallen tree. This tree (approximately 1.5 feet in diameter) had been drying and rotting for a while before it was knocked down. They were all growing among some tall grass.
Spore print color: The color seemed to be black, but with a possible slight purple tint.
Bruising: They bruised a dark brownish color.
Other information: Here are 4 pictures of the specimens http://www.shroomery.org/forums/usergallery.php/gallery/365531/folder/Hunt+%231 (SWIM didn't have their camera when they found them, so they had already handled them by the time they could photograph them.)
I was wondering if anyone could either confirm SWIM's original identification, or tell me what exactly SWIM has there. Thanks much!

I can slightly see that, but only 2 of them were buttoned enough at the top to be possibly considered as such; they were much more flat. The color had faded a tad since being brought inside and being put under different light..
Thanks for the post!

Psilocybe squamosus is a now deprecated name for Leratiomyces squamosus var. thraustus, which is inactive even if it was that, which it isn't

Well, I knew they are inactive, but it's still nice to be able to ID them. Thank you for the ID! Peace brother!

DR Ghosty is 99%, usually... now he's solid 100 with Lacrymaria lacrymabunda.
"buttoned enough at the top" isn't really a term we throw around lightly in the mycological world, if at all, if ever before now...
If you're in middle TN, focus on Gymnopilus, panaeolus, and Pluteus for your active species. You're highly unlikely to find Psilocybe there.

Well, I'm still learning the lingo, so forgive my unfamiliarity. So you doubt any active psilocybe varieties are around the area, hmm, that's not pleasant to my ears. I'm still going to go hunting for the fun of it, and hope for a random bout of luck! I've heard of them being found here, so I have some hope, but only time will tell. Thanks good sir!

You're most likely to find active Pluteus in dead of summer, I never found them in temps less than 90, unless it was early morning. There's usually only a couple fruits, and you won't notice the bruising till about ten minutes later. So collect and observe all your Pluteus. You'll learn the macro differences after you compare different patches.
I found active Gymnopilus in spring and fall, but with short seasons and few flushes.
P. subbaelteaus is found in well kept yards all around the world. They showed up in my yard after nearly ten years, without my introduction.

gotcha. and that suggestion was coming from someone who hasn't yet found that species even though it has been found within 50 miles to my north, west, and south.
