must the coco coir be tightly packed ? mine is pretty loosely packed inside the container. also how long does it often take for mycelium to start breaking through casing later ?

Only thing that kind of worked for me was to fruit for a few days without the casing, then case with coir and keep the tub in fruiting. That way it switched to fruiting mode before the casing was applied so it didn't get consumed as much. And you don't want it packed. You want little crevices and valleys in your casing. I go over mine with a fork.

So you basically just poke down on it without touching the sub? I always sprinkle it over the top evenly till it looks like 1/4" deep all around.
Never thought that it needed to aerated. I guess if using a really thin layer, then it wouldn't really be necessary.

You want it aerated because those air pockets are what helps creates the nice micro-climate on the surface. Just go over it lightly with a fork...not all the way to the sub but like you're plowing a field lol just do it lightly.
