So good. Their drummers are all fucking insane.

I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

oh sure. Relationship of Command is great, and so is there earlier albums and EPs. i like their earliest most, they started out with a almost completely different sound in their inception.

Mars Volta fan checking in, they are fucking incredible. First concert/music festival had them on the bill and that it still in my top 10 concert experiences years later.
Televators was the first song I learned to play on the guitar.

Very true. The last time I saw them was when they opened for Sound Garden at Bill Graham Civic Center and they completely sucked, a lot of covers and songs from their side projects. Not a single soul in that audience was moving to the music at all except for me, the stillness was eery. Closed on Goliath though, small consolation for an 80$ ticket just to have Sound Garden blow out my eardrums 30 minutes later.
Didn't surprise me that they split soon after, all good things must come to an end.

i was trying to find another one but this one suited my expectations. sometimes they're like a bit... well at least Cedric can lose his voice sometimes, and that's mostly about it...they have alot of good videos on youtube.

You mean the audience or The Mars Volta, because they've been clean for a while I thought? The audience picked up their energy right afterward, two mosh pits sandwiched on both sides of the stage.

their shows are nuts they always have this trippy psychedelic modern art painting that changes with the lights and cedric just flips through a black book off stage presumably full of improv for between sets the bassist did a pretty sweet solo too before day of the baphomets, had this crazy echo and dampener effect fuck-ing -cray-zee!!

Understandable, in either case The Mars Volta led me to Mr. Bungle so I have no complaints. Playing that shit in the car with my friends in junior high were some interesting times, it ain't no mouse music.
Cedric broke their sign and climbed around the scaffolding when I saw them.
(Sign desctruction at 8:00)
Haven't seen that much frenetic energy ever since.

Right? I don't know of any bands that try to project the same type of genuine, raw bombastic energy as The Mars Volta had when they were active.
It was an excellent first concert, was a little strange going from that to Dave Mathews Band. They should have gotten a bigger slot than 45 minutes, DMB got 2 and a half hours.

Also most don't understand how high they set the bar when The Mars Volta were composing and laying down the tracks to some of their albums. Yeah they aren't the best live, but they're on a whole other level of expression in the thick of it.

All I'm saying is that that music sounds WAY different on a head full. Like maybe the most different of any band I've listened to with/without trippy fun brain chemistry going on.

I wish i listened to more of it then id be able to tell you exactly reasons why this band is absolute shit. I mean i cant sit thru a whole album. you know what that takes for me? Its excrusiating honestly. the whole record is like a irritating shit smear of sound. Adding wierd annoying noises at wierd times doesnt mean your music is edgy it means it sucks. I find it very hard to find the grooves it sounds like a really bad garage band thats been playing for awhile but that stupid hipster people with bad taste gave a bunch of money to so its like redic.

I mean if you don't like the band.... why don't you just click the "Back" button
You came in here with the sheer purpose of letting everyone know that its for hipsters and the music sucks. You can get your point across without having to resort to name calling.
I've never bashed other peoples music interests even if I do think it sucks.
But ok, salty. KEep on being salty.

No shit. The Mars Volta isn't meant to be listened to in tracks. They meant for you to sit and listen to the entire album. It's quite romantic in today's music industry honestly.

Wow, and your criticism is based on unnecessary noises? Sts9, disco biscuits, moe, lotus, and eoto base their jams on random improvised noises.
If you don't dig it that's fine but have a bit more substantial justification behind your opinion if you want to add anything of value to the discussion.

Yeah, I don't really get his really salty attitude. Weirdly enough some of the bands he mentions goes off exactly on random noise thrown together in an artistic view.
Oh well. People will always be mad for one reason or the other.

You clearly have no real taste in music. You sound like a 14 year old. From the way you type to the way you say that it sucks just because you don't like it.
Well, the bottom line is that they don't suck. They've sold millions of records. They're signed to a major label. Rick Rubin produced their first record (he produced the most popular album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers). Flea plays bass on their first record. John Frusciante plays guitar on the first five albums. Heavily on albums 3-5. Thomas pridgen and deantoni parks played drums for them. Both are highly renowned by anyone with musical knowledge. Their original drummer Jon Theodore is the closest thing to a modern day John Bonham. Theodore plays with Queens of the stone age right now...they definitely don't suck. Their recently deceased organist ikey Owens was in Jack whites live band.
With all of these amazing musicians involved how could they suck? This band was the best modern Prog band since rush, king crimson, pink Floyd, Carmen, camel, u.k. You have a domestic beer taste therefore you can't appreciate the fine wines. It's of course not the issue that you don't like it...you can't handle it, you don't get it. It's too complex for you..a level of musicianship you cannot comprehend.
It's like showing a dog a card trick.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned their new project antemasque yet. I'm not a big fan of the recordings but I've seen some videos of live shows and they seem like they have that raw energy back from early mars volta.

I get it now. You've revealed the real reason you don't like them. It's because the singer has a high pitched voice like coheed. That's fine, but why didn't you just come out and say that?
Still, you're overlooking musical greatness.

Some progress made, you don't have to enjoy it you just need to sound like an adult when you talk about your opinions instead of a 12 year old who loves drake and maroon 5 being forced to listen to pink floyd for the first time.
