Yes, rhizo is best for transfers, especially when cleaning prints bc tomentose can produce cultures that don't fruit... clones don't carry this risk (from my understanding)... you'll have less tomentose with agar cultured tubs than with MS (for reasons of isolation of rhizomorphic growth) matting occurs with too wet or too dry conditions, and tomentose is more susceptible, but not a huge factor, and not as detrimental to pinning with cubensis as with other species, they push through it! I had a tub matted so bad it was almost shiny, and still pushing out 5th flush outdoors, so no worries... IMLE, if your spawn is clean, it's hard to stop them from growing... hope this eases your mind a bit, you're doing great! Just keep doing what you're doing (research, questions, attention to detail) and you've got it whooped!

I've never seen a non fruiting culture ever once. And some of my best performance cultures were tomentose on agar.
You can force your growth to be more rhizomorphic by using less nutritional media.

So far I've found my agar dishes grow tomentose after swabbing from spore, and start to show rhizo growth after a couple transfers... but I have used all of the tomentose plates to inoc jars and they grow fine

So with my tubs like this and the lid already flipped during colonization, when the magic percentage hits how do I put it into the fruiting conditions?

So I just sit back and do nothing till it starts pining? it almost seems to set it and forget it easy.

I've tried the first version of this tek (with the lids on but not latched) several times and it keeps contaminating about half way through colonization.
I'm about to try the newest iteration of this tek, where fruiting conditions are initiated at the beginning.
This will be my fourth attempt.
I am pressure cooking my coir for three hours at 15 PSI, just to be overly thorough. I know you can sterilize using much less.
I'm adding more spawn this time to my tubs, hoping for quicker colonization.
Using the exact kinds of tubs that OP uses, with the exact same lights.
Wish me luck on attempt #4! Here is hoping I can learn what the problem is with my contams.

It is not the tek that causes it to contaminate, it is your spawn not being clean.

I wouldn't say its a version. You can do whatever you want with colonization/fruiting conditions. Colonization conditions don't cause contamination. People used to wrap their entire tubs in a black trash bag then shove em in a closet. And that didn't cause contamination either but it was dumb.

Can anyone post some pics of the sides of the tub when fully colonized or when its time to fruit. I have been reading this thread from the beginning and all I ever see are top down pics.
