So here's my results from my first grow attempt using Bod's Unmodified tub tek and my first grow ever. (Can't count the one bag of rye berries I bought online and tried to knock up )
MS>agar>oats>coir
Spawned to a 32q mini using Bods easy AF bucket Tek
Came away with 2 zips from all flushes (3). I wish I was lucky enough to just have a beautiful canopy like some on thier first try but it didn't happen. I'm totally stoked with what I got haha. I will continue to work to get my field capacity just right and so in turn hopefully my surface conditions will improve. Then canopies!!
  some small some big
And then this mutant grew on the bottom of my tub Obviously my bottom conditions are better than my surface conditions
Thanks for the Easy AF Teks Bod

That's the joys of working from spores. Your at the mercy of ginetics and even the best bulk and fruiting conditions of th ginetics are poor yiu wont get a canopy.
That's why some move to cloning and agar.

Right on veda.....I will just continue to experiment with the spores I have until I get a flush and canopy i like then clone to agar.

Clone now and see what u get my first clone can from a1st flush mono with no where near a canopy and it produced constant canopies

Do you have a target near you? That's the best place to find them.

Hey Guys. First attempt with unmodified Tub. It was looking beautiful and white until two day's ago when I started to notice yellowish color which I believe is the mycelium fighting off a contamination. Probably cobweb. Should I treat it with something, do nothing? Possibly do a casing? I'm a little unclear as to the timing of cracking the lid in the Mod but started that pretty early. This is Purple Mystic which I highly recommend as a fast colonizer.

It looks dry. Is the surface matted and dry? How long have you had the tub ij fruiting conditions? The first pic looks like only half the sub is colonized.

Made the tub about 3 weeks ago maybe four(I just started keeping a log). May have started cracking the lid a little early. Are you supposed to keep it in the dark with the lid on but not latched down until fully colonized? As you noticed it started colonizing at the top and is working down. It feels damp and cool to the touch. The sides are contracting a little. Should I spray the sides a few times to get the moisture up?

4 weeks is a long time to be uncolonized still. Did you mix the sub and grains evenly?
Quote:
The lid is NOT latched down during colonization
I generally will flip the lid over as the substrate nears full colonization or anywhere from 50-90% colonization, generally I aim for 80% colonization. I am putting the tub into "fruiting conditions" a little bit before full colonization.
If you simply leave the lid upside down from ~80% colonization until you harvest the first flush chances are you will not need to mist at all or if you do you will only need to every other day or so. This method is extremely low maintenance. No fanning is required, mist if needed, which will be infrequently. If you can brush your teeth at home you have more than enough time to visit a tub once or twice during fruiting.

Did you soak your grains before spawning them, or straight from jar to substrate?

Yes I did. Added Coir, added jar, mixed, Added Coir, added jar mix all of it, so on and so on. This was a departure from the 1st bulk I did where I layered coir, spawn, coir spawn.

I don't think I used the same density of spawn to coir as you do. The spawn was steam crimped oats which I won't use again as it was a bitch to break up the spawn so I had to break it with a large fork and crumble with gloved hands and mixed into spawn. It was well mixed though. I think I only had four or five jars and a Brick and a half of coir. I've considered remixing the whole tub but that's inviting contamination. ALL COBWEB MOLD SHOULD DIE!!!

Was referring to bods tubs booboowho. I know in his video he goes straight from jar to sub, but was curious if bod has soaked before spawning and what are the benifits if he has seen any? My grains are ready soon and am looking for the best method to spawn my grains.

Soaking spawn before spawning is just a good way to wash off mycelium. If you need more moisture just add it to the substrate lol

I wanna add that I don't know where the theory of "soaking spawn shaves off colonization times" comes from, it's totally the opposite for me.
Maybe if you prep your grains too dry I can see it benefiting from a soak, but that only means you need to change the way you prep grains, or just add a tad more water to the sub.
It won't improve the yield either. All in all and in my fucking humble opinion, a good way to weaken the culture for no reason and no dividends.
