going to pick up the supplies for this starting today, if i keep the ratio of oats to coir i'm assuming using the no pressure cooker tek will be ok as i can't afford a large pressure cooker at the moment? i'll be using pint jars but will just do a larger amount to keep the ratio.
this is a great guide, sorry i was short with you earlier bod, i had pretty awful information from a grow kit and was annoyed and overwhelmed with information. wish i came across this site first!

There is a guide here for sterilization using a pot with tight fitting lid. I'm budget limited as I'm recovering from surgery and can't work for a while. Just trying to get things going until I can afford to do everything as far as equipment.

If you cant get a pressure cooker i would not recommend doing grains. That seems extremely risky imo. I think doing brf cakes would be a much safer route, as you can steam sterilize them. You can also shred the cakes with a cheese grater and spawn them to coir just like you would with the grains.
Heres the teks id recommend.
Pf Tek: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24179086 <---- Use this for making the cakes, inoculating, etc
BRF To Bulk: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24945782 <---- Use this once the cakes are fully colonized and ready to fruit (if you choose to spawn to coir still)

Grains take over 8 hours in a pot with a tight lid. That's why we use the pressure cooker. You mixed two unrelated teks/methods
This is absolutely not a no-PC method. Unless you have an obnoxious amount of free time to sterilize grains with no pressure over an entire day

Don't overthink the tubs. There is plenty of moisture in the substrate, and your job is to keep that moisture from evaporating by misting. Spray it, and let it evaporate to help trigger pinning. You only need to do this a few times before the pins become mushrooms and start creating their own moisture. If there is still water on the surface, it doesnβt need to be misted again.
Itβs that simple. Youβve done the hard part already by inoculating your grains and letting them colonize in a sterile environment. These tubs are tough and can take some abuse!

You will need 5 quarts worth of grain. Thats 20 half pints per 56/66 quart tub.

Tyndallization is the only method one could really use to sterilize oats without a PC, but it would take 3 or 4 days. Steaming oats, as mentioned above, is a bad idea. It could work with corn. I had success in the past steaming large amounts of corn before I had a PC, but I wouldn't recommend it since it is prone to failure.

Tyndallization is a garbage technique. Conditions for ALL endospores to geminate must happen at intermittent phases. Out of the population of pre-existing endospores some will be stubborn to germinate even in optimal conditions.
You're far better off doing a super long steaming

Both methods seem to suck. Steaming every 12-24 hours for 3-4 days or steaming 8 straight hours... Don't have te time nor the interest to ever try either. Both seem like an awful waste of time, and I have the impression steaming for 8 hours might turn te grains to mush.

Just super rhizo. Did it in grain and on agar. And now in the tub lol.
Unless there is something I'm missing it's healthy just weird.

It's kinda rad. Are you planning on true-casing that one next time? It really looks like it would benefit from it.

Do you personally find that a casing benefits penis envy strains? Or do you not use a casing for PE's either? Ill be growing APE's soon for the first time, and im trying to decide if i should use a top layer at spawn, a casing after full colonization, or both. Ive had good success with just a top layer for normal cubes.
