I appreciate the time and interest to you took to type this out to help me Josex. I read back through my little procedures notebook VS Bods write-up and I realized i had been leaving the lid entirely too open for too long and compensating with misting.
Lesson learned here and I'll knock off the misting/fanning/babysitting. I was running SGFC cakes as I said and also running a DWC hydro grow for my plants, so i guess i fell into the more love=more produce type of idea.  thanks for the advice and lets see what the second flush and next tub hold

Hey Bod. I have used your tub tek before with success during fruitinjg but I haven't yet tried it for colonization. I'm a little unclear what you do with the lid during colonization. I know you have it upside down leaving gaps during fruiting, but how do you have it when colonizing?
I know the TEK says not to have the claps latched during colonization. But do you keep the lid on as it normally would go, and just not clasp it?

Thanks

I have a question about the lights - is heat required or is it light? I have the opportunity to buy LED lights that give out little, to no heat. Wondering are these ok?

So far I've almost go all the equipment to begin this process.

Also, is agar and Petri dishes necessary? Does this allow for more mushrooms to be cloned? Still reading and learning.

Thanks,

Drake

agar allows you to inoculate grain spawn with a lesser chance of contamination

inoculating jars with multispore has a greater chance of contamination because spores a rarely sterile

I don't have a scale to accommodate wet weight reasonably so I went straight to the dehydrator. Still waiting on the last tray and a half to finish, but I'm up to 90g cracker dry I on the first flush. Hoping for a full 4oz!!
Thanks Bod, you the bomb man

Shit son, that's a good grow! Hopefully I'll have some of your luck when harvest times comes for my tubs.

I'm no expert, but I'll try answering these questions. To the more experienced growers, feel free to correct me if my information is wrong.

In the OP Bod mentions to have the lid on the normal way without having the handles clasped. I think he recommends it this way to minimize FAE, but enough of an opening (due to an imperfect seal) to have gas exchange. (now this is my own inference) That way the environment is similar to your grain jars with a small hole for gas exchange while it colonizes your tub (so tub and jar colonization roughly have the same-ish conditions). Then once you flip the lid, your FAE will increase considerably which puts the tub into fruiting conditions.

For your lights you want to have fluorescent lights that are around ~6500K and ~1250 lumens. You want to have fluorescent lights because they produce a wider spectrum of light (obviously this will change from brand to brand, model to model, etc) and mimic daylight better.
Then as BOD said in the OP, the heat probably just helps out a bit with convection currents in the tub to increase FAE. So it's not a requirement to have heat, just maybe an added benefit.
Edit:
Agar and petri dishes aren't essential for growing mushrooms, but it's one of those things that will definitely give you a leg up and allow you to be successful. When you put spores (from a spore print or MS syringe) onto agar, it allows you to isolate clean mycelial growth since spore prints and MS syringes are not sterile. That way you're not unintentionally putting bacteria or mold into your grain jars, thus wasting grain, supplies, and (most importantly) your time. Once you actually grow a mushroom, you can then take tissue samples from mushrooms you want to clone and put them on agar to clean them up (make sure there's no mold or bacteria) and grow them out before putting the agar wedges into you grain jars to start the process all over again.

They're actually coming along pretty good I think. The Chitwan that I put to tub on the 10th is allllmost ready to put into fruiting conditions I think. Maybe in the next day or two?

***Question: When deciding the %colonized, do we just look at the surface or do we take into consideration the sides against the walls of the tub as well?

Then the PESA and Ecuador tubs that I made up on the 17th look like they're catching up really quick.
Order of pictures - Chitwan (Mar 10), PESA (Mar 17), Ecuador (Mar 17)

Then I have one more Chitwan tub and then two mixed tubs - PESA/Chitwan and Ecuador/Chitwan, that I made up with the leftover jars that didn't make the cut for the purebred tubs.

NJH i like what i see.

Jonhash doesnt look healthy to me. Keep an eye for green. It almost looks like mold more than mycelium. Did you use clean inoculant?

I used multispore from trusted vendor. No green I just assumed it was pretty fuzzy mycelium. I posted at day 7 to ask if it was too fuzzy to be myc but no one answered. These photos are from yesterday. Keep in mind I was fairly spawn heavy and all 4 tubs look exactly like this.

If you can check the link in my sig for ezpz agar.

It doesn't smell off. I'm just going to keep rolling with it and see what happens I spawned the 10th same day as njh. It looks better each day I'll get more photos this evening. Or tomarrow morning. I appreciate your insight and help. I want this to succeed.

Bod, could you give us a quick rundown of exactly how you bottom water your tubs? I know you pour water in the sides but I’m curious how much water you pour in and how long you leave it in for.
