Bod,
I've seen you mention you sometimes leave lids off completely when at home. I figure you do that so you can keep an eye on your tubs surface conditions, and them not drying out during the day.
Im thinking of an experiment; what if I could some how make sure room RH is around 70 (humidifier) temp at 70ish and no fans whatsoever - and leave lids off when I'm away during office hours. Would that much FAE be beneficial working with your substrate of choice, Coir? I've put dung aside and bought a shitload of coir to do a round of 4 x 70q tubs.
I know i'd be guesstimating drying effect of just the room air but do you have any thoughts on this? I know its not per your TEK though I still wonder..
p.s. 1st time just coco coir for me now colonizing one 70q tub, man that gous fast! Way faster than poo/verm!

Are you trying to dial in a room? Try a GH. Or just follow the tek and leave lid ajar/upside down when not at home. Max FAE without drying out sub is always optimal, regardless of material.

Yes, in a sense im trying to dial in a 16 sq/ft mini room with four 70q tubs going and some smaller ones. I know the turn lid stuff when pins are in etc just wondering if the extra FAE would be beneficial or total bollocks.. I just thought back to Bods remark he sometimes leave lids away completely. Interested in the thoughts there and possibilities.
Will leave this alone if BS, UnmodTubTek is already working fine.. just looking for something to tweak
Cant sit still ya know p.s. "GH" means?

GH is greenhouse.
You can see what your sub will do with the lid off. I keep mine off all day and night because I work from home and can check once or twice a day to see if it's too dry. And I know I can do this just by trying it, so that may be what you have to do. Hard to tell just based off room RH and temp whether or not you can leave it off while you're at work. I think if people could monitor their tubs more, they'd allow for the most FAE they can get without letting sub dry out. You want all that evap goin.
Give it a shot on a weekend or whenever and see how long it will remain hydrated with no lid.

So since the new advice I've gotten about using more bulk in my spawn ratio I made a 1:2 ratio Sorghum/CVG tub 9 days ago and its looking really nice, its not shrinking much from the sides.
It is shrinking a bit but it looks like shrinkage from the mycelium consuming the sub.
The cake is squeezing out some water as it colonizes which I'm draining because the droplets on my surface is still huge and a bit much so I'm hoping to get it down a bit by draining the water it separates.

Would yall recommend putting anything in the bottom for fruiting brf cakes in an unmodified? My first cakes are dunking right now n ive got 2 (i believe 27qt sterilite tall tubs light blue latches) one has been kinda 3/4 turned sgfc. Got 8 cakes (half pints) was thinkin of tryin 4 in each unless it might be smarter to just double stack in one. I appreciate yalls time to reply with advice on which path i should approach.

I tried not using a liner and have massive side-pinning. I think my surface is pretty good and there are heaps of pins on top too.
Is room temp a factor? I get a lot of condensation in my tubs that runs down the sides. Wondering if that's part of the cause of side pins or if I do just need to work on the surface humidity.

I love how this became a TEK. My old roomie and I were poor and knew nothing years ago and this was out method. Though it was a gray tote with saran wrap on top and just fruited off WBS. Worked out incredible lol.

I haven't read all 65+ pages of comments (yet) - so... when it comes to misting: are you misting the sides of the tub or the substrate directly?
