I'll be honest, the verm layer on my tester tray worked amazingly well. It really brought that sucker to life. It's only a little 1/4th loaf baking pan but it probably has at least 30-40 viable pins now, it'll probably end up being a good 7-10 grams. One jar of spawn, one little pan, and simply coir and verm. Not even any artificial lighting. To me, it's worth the yield.
With the tub, I think the colonization has pretty much halted from one factor or the other. It's not terrible looking, but there's about a %10 line at the bottom of the soil that's not colonized. And just a few small bare spots on top. Is it OK to go ahead and try to fruit it before it gets stale? Or should I leave it to sit and consolidate for a few more days?

So one of my 20qts is at Day 13, flipped the lid on day 9, looks like the sub has shrunken from the walls like 1/8inch on all sides. Don't see any knotting yet, but I have to mist every 18-24 hours. I think there's just alot of moving air since the AC runs all day and night
Hoping to see something happen in a few days

I was hoping for a better out come. All though I'm sure it would've been way better if I had given them consistent conditions. Damn shit. Learn as we go is the name of the game. This tub looks fucking nasty...

Yes, yes mynakedrat, it does. These tubs that I did seem to go from dry - to - soaked - to Dry within an hour of spraying. I never get the "glisten" with the tubs like I could with the shoe boxes. She started out great, but was matted from the get go, I think from the excess garbage bag laying on top the sub during colonization.

Stupid question guys. I just put together a tub of atl and coir. Do I leave the lid on and closed until it gets colonised then I'm gonna case it. Sound good?

So I'm having problems. I started my tub over a week and a half ago, fruiting for almost a week now, and no pins. I think I fruited way too late as the mycelium covered %98 of the surface but turned wet-grey and matified as soon as moisture arose on it. I added a verm layer to hopefully soak up excess moisture from the matified mycelium, to spring it back to fuzzy life (worked great in my tester tray) but still no luck at all. No signs of contams, the coco-peat looks very healthy with mycelium under the surface, but no pin activity. Not really any signs of any bacteria even. Still smells clean (though no longer like mushrooms.)
I highly suspect that coco-peat is much different from coir, containing much less nutrients because of much less "stringy" material and much more brown peat-like coco-shavings. It seems the "strings" (according to intense research) are what the mushies like the most. My tester tray is absolutely bursting with mushies, best yield in terms of number yet, but they are TINY compared to my monstrous manure mushies and each tiny mushie will probably only weigh 0.2g dried compared to my prize-winning 1.25g (dried) godzillas.
And with what may be much less nutrients, even though I added small amounts of gypsum, it may be why the big tub might not even be showing a single pin. I even scratched a spot a couple days ago and nothing. I've tried every condition under the sun for this tub and it just won't do anything. Nothing seems wrong with it other than a thin, matified, dark-grey top layer (it was gleaming white before getting soggy from it's own condensation), and I've always won against matification before. I've gotten good yields in some form or other with everything I've tried with this hobby, cept this dang tub.
What on earth could be going on? I have it in natural, soft indoor sunlight with a little direct in the afternoon. I've done everything else. Only modification is I had to use a slightly weaker/slightly different color bulb as the one recommended got so hot it was warping the plastic. What gives?

A week with no pins isn't really that long. Post a pic so we can be sure conditions are correct but, I have waited a month for pins before.

Right. And what's your lid doing? Are you opening. To get some air exchange?
Coco peat is almost the same thing, no biggie

I'm doing the same with pan cambo. What temp and Rh are you going with?
I've read 75'-85', Rh no less than 90. When it starts to pin keep the temp around 80' and increase Rh to 100. I've read the same for the Mexicanas also, except only increasing Rh to 95. I have Jalisco fruiting now.
