why spend extra on a tight seal lid just to flip it upside down? seems a regular lid on normal would do the same but be cheeper?
i prefer standard monos just because i dont like to mess with my tubs, even though i only run 4, i wouldnt be able to remember to constantly flip my lids sideways and mist...

it was a cheap tub. that's all cheaper than a 66q at the time. I was going to make it into a mono but I said fuck it.
even with a regular mono I take the lid off anyway. I smoke weed left and right and still can remember to do it
either way this is more or less for people to see what can be done, and do it even if they need to modify it to suit themselves. if you already have some experience this is for you, it's just another example of a FC that works, all the while other people build ones with pumps and airstones and humidifiers and have shit to show for it.

until it was fully colonized, I'm always at room temp. or within a few degrees. 20C is "room temp" but 66-72F is most peoples room temp. and that's just fine.

That's a pretty cool monotub idea. I haven't seen this done before
Have you done it without the light? And were the effects much different?

Hey Bodhi,
1. How many quarts of spawn? (Rye, WBS, ECT)
2. How much CVG? (Bucket TEK or Sterilized in Jars)
3. How often did you mist?
4. Do you prefer growing in bottles or tubs?
Thanks

I'm almost positive it was 3q and it was oat spawn
About 2:1 sub to spawn give or take I don't really measure that
When I was home I mist once a day when having the lid off
Idk I like bottles 5zips is way more than I need for a long time. Bottles = variety. The performance is there too

This is funny. I fruited a ton of cakes a while ago in an opaque blue tub with no holes because I was too lazy to make a proper fc. I would leave it open for a half hour or so at a time while I was home and other than that, no FAE and no light... Got great yields and some of the biggest fruits I've ever gotten from cakes. Not that I condone that method, but fruiting really isn't as complicated as some people make it. It's pretty easy to get good yields invitro as well, without any FAE... ever.
Easy simplification, nice yield, nice looking fruits.

Thrilled to see somebody else doing this! Puts a smile on my face
Thread I posted a number of years ago: Just Some Mushroom Porn - "No Hole" Monotub(s) - UPDATED w/ More Pics
I literally never use holes in my tubs...I mean, I use the largest pre-existing hole though..you know, the one on top...the one the lids covers With that there why go through the trouble of making more holes I always say.
From that thread:

Quote:
I don't use holes in my tubs anymore. I leave the lid cracked about a half an inch during the day, and close it up at night. When I say I "leave the lid cracked" I mean that instead of putting the lid on the tub so it's closed, I move the lid off center by about a half an inch.
The way my lighting is set up, is the bulb above each tub is about 6 inches away. This creates warmer air inside the tub than outside the tub, which in turn creates convection currents within the tub. The warmer air exits through the 1/2" opening on one side, and as it exits, pulls fresh air in through the 1/2" opening on the opposite site. So during the day it gets, more or less, constant fresh air while still maintaining a very high RH (RH is controlled by the size of the gap created by having the lid offcenter...which I can easily make larger or smaller by simply moving the lid closer to or farther from being completely closed).
I've stopped modifying my tubs for a couple of reasons, the first being that once I've modified them with holes and whatever else, they become kind of single purpose, in that I can't really use them as regular tubs anymore for things like storage. Second, they look weird as hell and are hard to explain to people asking why I've got tubs with holes all over the place. Third, I've found great success not putting holes in them...in fact, much more success than I had while putting holes in them. Fourth, moving a lid back and forth is a lot easier than messing with "polyfill density". What I mean is, it's hard to accurately measure from one grow to the next "how dense the polyfill was" the last time when you had a good grow. The offcenter lid method is easily measurable...in that you literally measure how far from centered the lid is, and it's easily repeatable.
I give a good fanning just before I seal the tubs up at night. I mist whenever I see that things are dry or on their way to approaching being dry.

then you'll probably like this one

it has holes but none of that fucking polyfil mess. this one is PEU, but it hasn't started to pin yet.
there's three holes on each of the short sides up by the handles. and one hole by the substrate on the long sides

I just made a no polly tub using a ring if 3/16" holes around the top and 14 3/16" holes spread out at sub level. I'm not sure how well it will work yet. The no hole thing doesn't work for my situation becaus I stack tubs.
