With cubes. Could a casing layer of blended eggshells and coir have any benefit over no casing?

No, no value in adding eggshells.

Thank you for sharing some knowledge. Ive been looking for a Tek that I can stack while fruiting, just for the meantime while I'm limited on space and all that
Great read and I'd recommend any newb like myself to go for the full read and a ton of super useful links in sigs in this thread.
Saving this for when I go black Friday shopping, can't wait to stock up on mason jars and tubs I'll post a thread of my progress using these tubs. I have 2 bags colonizing from spores which will be my first attempt :P but I've learned patience is key with these beauty's and I can't wait to get some agar going from these bags so I can get this stackable chamber set up
Thanks for the write-up again, it really helps people like me with breaking the ice and getting the grasp of how every little Tek works for its own design. I hope my fruits come out half as decent as yours, which I'm sure will happen with time excited to post progress pictures! Will be getting a decent camera this black Friday as well as my much needed pressure cooker got a nice long list for tomorrow's Walmart / target / home Depot trips xD

Will this method work with a decent size shoebox? If I don't want to big of a yield.

What kind of shoebox? I think alot of us use unmodified shoeboxes, myself included. I don't flip the lid on mine though. Just unlatched and sitting on the latch on one side and latched on the other side works in my growing area and environment.

Having about 10 tubs gong right now with BUT. This PE tub is taking off like crazy.
54Qt 3# grain to 15# substrate (both North spore) S2B 1/23 After colonization, covered with thin layer of coco coir. NO BLOBBING, at all. (dark spots are a few coco coir spots that are sparsely colonized. coming in there though as well. A few real nice clusters forming. Will post updated pics in a day or two.

this tek must not be for me because I am having to mist like 4x per day.. sub keeps drying out too fast. Maybe they changed the design of the tubs over the years?

Tubs are the same, your environment is likely different than his. Tub design, hole pattern, amount of poly fill or micropore are all just starting points. They are a representation of what works for one person in their own climate. You may have to adjust to account for differing RH, temperature, substrate hydration, etc. This is what is meant when people say fine tune or dial in your mono. No one solution will always work in all situations.

Part of the tradeoff for lazy man unmodified tubs is you have very limited control over the environment. IME unmodified tubs provide inconsistent FAE and are extremely sensitive to airflow in the room.

I second this. Its one of the hardest lessens I've had to have. Drafty monos are a nightmare to dial in.

Prices for things have definitely gone up. For some reason I became interested in growing marijuana and mushrooms at the same time. Probably spent like $1000 in both so far. Marijuana going well, mushrooms, struggling a bit.
I got a 50lb bag of oats for $16, I'm not sure where it's so much more expensive. It's not $10, but it's not $30 either. I got 12 quart jars for $16. Here's my dilemma:
What kind of container do people use? I can't find the Sterilite one with 4 latches like in the original post. Can I use one that only has two latches?
