Hi, just wondering the exact dimensions of the tubs used by y'all? Does the height matter? I have a 64 litre tub I plan to use in the future, maybe it's too big, he says he uses a 50ish litre tub. I figured its only length and width that are important, but maybe not? If height doesnt matter was going to get these because that's much much better value than any other alternative Ive seen in the Uk.

Also how come we dont make holoes in monotub teks? Btw Im starting my first ever grow and will use pf-tek, but Im multi purchasing tubs so trying to future proof atm, thanks!

All dimensions L x W x H are equally important, honestly id say height is actually more important as it dictates the amount of space between your substrate and your lid therefore also dictating humidity levels for this method of cultivation.
Let me give you an example;
You have a tub with the following dimensions (in inches for you backwards people)
L x W x H 30 x 20 x 20.
This would mean your lid would be aprox 16-18 inches above your substrate.
HOWEVER
If your dimensions were L x W x H 30 x 20 x 100
you would have a very tall tub. (an exaggeration as its easier to make things bigger and point out faults)
Due to the tub being so tall there is more air space available for the water to evaporate into. if you have 96-98 inches of available air space then your substrate would loose its moisture a lot quicker due to a much higher evaporation level.
hope that made sense! I think im right but i could be wrong. somewhat new to mycology but thats just science
Im not sure of an exact ratio to follow. I have been using this TEk for my first shoebox style tub and its going great. i am going a lot smaller however

I think you're right - that's wild! I assume it's a periodic float and not continuous.

The homie needs to confirm if he leaves the cake in a literal water reservoir constantly or not?
I would assume not. Im guessing on the latter half of fruit development they sat the cake in water to make sure it pushed enough water into the mushrooms for bigger fruits?
Not sure but looks cool lol

For sure it´s that. It´s just a method to harvest, in addition to that you also have some kind of a bottom dunk. A heavy misting after releasing water, and ready for next round.

Well fuck, I’m gonna give it a go with 3 quarts of spawn, what size tub do you guys think I should get? 32?

Size wise the 32 would be ideal for 3 jars at 1:1 spawn/ bulk ratio. Practically they’re more of a pain to clean due to internal vertical corner ribs that make them sturdy but will inevitably hold onto the leavings from your last substrate, and they don’t stack together as closely (when not in use) as the 54’s. The 54qt sterilite with the blue gasket/handles that Bod recommends at the beginning of this thread is my all around favorite. 3qts will work in a 54 just might take a little longer, you just need to add enough bulk so the sub is 3-4 inches thick after alls said and done.

What do you think about 1:2 or 1:3 ratio, spawn to sub, and how much spawn would you think it would take for a 1:2 ratio in a 54qt, at about 3”? Just to get an idea how much I’m gonna need to get ready for each one. Thank you so much !

I used this calculator and it worked fine for me. http://substratecalculator.weebly.com/ (I would credit the author, but I don't remember where I found it.

Hello guys, I'm new to this and before I found this forum I started uncle bens tek. So I've got 7 bags of brown rice. 2 was contaminated and 5 went good. I mixed it with 1:3 ratio to coir and put in 2 small boxes and into monotub (unmodified). After 7-10 days it was 80% colonized so I flipped the lid left a little gap and added LED light. I'm keeping temperature around 22C and humidity around 75-85%. 10 days after boxes look a bit different and I'm wondering if it is contamination or not? Especially the right box, phone makes it look white, but I can see a bit blue or green.

Just wanted to clarify. When you start your “growing conditions” with new tub do you go immediately to offering light or introduce light once you have mycelium coverage?

I introduced the light and air after it was 80% colonized. I had 0.5 inch coir layer above the mix.

not gonna lie, the prices in bod's original post make me laugh.
i don't know if it's just me, but: 50 lbs of oats for $12??? costed me $50. 20 bricks of coir for $30??? that's what 5 bricks costed me.
i almost think i'm getting scammed.
