im going to try this, and read through the first 15 pages looking for this answer.. lol, im a little confused. the picture says "leave lid upside down while not at home...." do you just take the lids completely off for a certain amount of time while "home?" or are the lids on upside down constantly through colonizing/fruiting?

also whats the point in off-setting every other mono when stacking? why not just stack conventionally?

The photo says "lid on, upside down for when you're not home". My understanding is that Bod leaves the lid on, upside down, all of the time, unless the tub gets too moist, then he might remove the lid completely for some period of time to allow for more evaporation. My personal experience with these tubs has been that the middle of the surface is pretty good but the corners are pretty much always too dry, so I never remove the lid (except to mist). I don't see any reason to remove the lid completely unless your tub is too wet.

To answer your second question, the underside of the lid has some ridges that make it necessary to offset the tubs like that.

All correct. Those are the directions for the tech. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Dry corners are definitely one thing we all get in common with this tech. Between those ridges and the way the lid can slide when it is upside down I've almost lost a few tubs.

Again, lid removal is not for everyone and not part of the OP. Having read a few posts where others removed their lids and given the humidity here I still take mine off. I'm not recommending it unless yoy have a few of these tubs under your belt.

I found the reference to the lid being off further back in this thread. I've read through most of Bod and pasty's stuff and I knew I saw it somewhere. It is in a reply so it is not something he suggested.

I'll be more careful next time.

Here it is

why spend extra on a tight seal lid just to flip it upside down? seems a regular lid on normal would do the same but be cheeper?

i prefer standard monos just because i dont like to mess with my tubs, even though i only run 4, i wouldnt be able to remember to constantly flip my lids sideways and mist...

it was a cheap tub. that's all cheaper than a 66q at the time. I was going to make it into a mono but I said fuck it.

even with a regular mono I take the lid off anyway. I smoke weed left and right and still can remember to do it

either way this is more or less for people to see what can be done, and do it even if they need to modify it to suit themselves. if you already have some experience this is for you, it's just another example of a FC that works, all the while other people build ones with pumps and airstones and humidifiers and have shit to show for it.

How long did you let the sub colonise for? Was that just at room temp as well?

Sorry for the questions but I want mine to flush good

until it was fully colonized, I'm always at room temp. or within a few degrees. 20C is "room temp" but 66-72F is most peoples room temp. and that's just fine.

Those look like underbed tubs but with latches.

Look up SOS shoebox on steroids thread. I love them they work the same as shoeboxes. Just leave it alone or dub them and you’re set.

I've done both and I'll never go back to cakes.  The grains are the way to go.... the yields are much higher and less contam in my grows. I tried cakes once and I'll never go back after grains.

Somewhere Bod says something about leaving the lids off, for example, while you brush your teeth.

Not a canopy to write home about, but here is my first grow using oats/coir/unmodified (32 qt).

These are B Plus and they are much smaller than the GTs I have always grown in the past. Is that typical or is it a specific mutation?

Size is genetic, that tubs weird it fruited fine but the surface looks like the spawn was super bacterial and didn’t colonize at all.

I agree that it's weird and I was surprised when the pins showed up before expected. I had a light dusting of very dry coir particles on the surface and one day the pins just popped up though it. I assumed that maybe I had too much FAE going and the show kicked off early, or that maybe B Plus behaved differently than the GTs that I'm familiar with.

When I look at the photos in your signature, A.k.a, I also get the impression that there is not quite the carpet of white that you often see. Am I wrong about that?

I'm very curious to see how my next flush develops.

All the ones in my signature happen to have been cased except the last one.

It seems like I either get a lot of myc on top or sometimes just knots poking up, but I put top layers on all of them to cover the grains and help keep the conditions good.

I suggest you go back to page 1 of this thread and start reading. Short answer, if you use the tub lid correctly you will get enough FAE.

How many quarts/pounds of grain spawn does Bods Tek call for in the 54 quart tub?

Some famous people I asked here seem to go with 5 quarts of spawn per one 650g brick of coir. Some go with 4 or 6 or 7.
