Looks like there’s two or three just starting. In a couple days there’ll probably be a ton.
I’d just keep it how you have it now, it looks like it’s been on the verge of drying out a few times though.

Okay, will do. Thanks a ton for the advice. Was initially worried about misting too often/much, so it’s possible it got too dry. Will be more generous going forward.

It’s not so much about misting as keeping humidity high. It took me a while to figure that out.

I see. Any tricks in that regard, short of running a humidifier in the room? Was thinking about keeping a wet sponge in the tub, but worried it might be a breeding ground for contaminants.

The 2nd of my 3 grain bags failed..tore open while very gently mixing (first came leaking)..I'm about 3/4 weeks into inoculation (spore syringe used 3/4 10cc syringe on heat malt with probe 74degrees..nothing yet.Plan was for a 54 at mono now I'm down to 1 3# bag..I knew I was going to start making my own petris eventually after research so I went out yesterday and got some new supplies. Presto 23qt, 80qt sterlite (sab) 2_54 sterlite and a 32 at (for my 1 bag run) I also grabbed some glad mini twists, case of qt Mason's, and did some amazon shopping for the rest... hopefully my 1 bag will take and the 32qt can be a learning primer. Thanks again for the tek

Question for someone experienced how often do you restart using agar or do you just keep using the same clone with grain transfers for years?

The guys that run the same clone for long periods use slants and master plates, and typically don’t expand g2g more than twice from what I’ve seen.

So if they dont do more than 2 grain transfers how do they build up a large collection of jars your saying they inoculate say 10 jars from agar then turn those 10 to 100 then restart inoculating the 10 with agar again?

So I'm curious why do they restart with agar after 2 g2g transfers why dont they just keep going with g2g does it fuck up the mycelium after a while?

@spreadtheknowledge I can't speak for shrooms..but growing for a few years I can say...if I keep cloning a clone the plants overall vigor starts to decrease ..that's why I keep a mother when I'm running clones...I can always go back to the original vigor of the first clone..this isn't always the case..but it does happen and I would suspect that's how the rotation of genetics in shrooms would work. I'd like to know the experienced growers .

If they’re doing that much it’s usually bags instead of jars. So they’ll g2g a master quart into bags with 40-50 quarts of grain total.
Or use lc.

This info is so helpful thank you everyone that has helped me so far 1 last question will I ever have to restart with spores or can I keep doing agar to grain transfer over and over? And if I do need to restart with spores how often do you suggest?

Read up on slants and master plates.
You can use one plate to produce thousands of quarts of spawn, if not hundreds of thousands.
If you set things up right you could definitely grow off one plate basically forever.
The main reason to go back to spores is to find a new clone to work with.

Can u list a good tek and thousands from one plate you cant mean one actual plate being transferred to grain jars right you mean using multiple plates of the same strain?

I think he is saying that once you have a strain you like you can keep that master plate or tube slant for a long long time. You can make a plate using a very small piece of the master plate and then use the new plate to expand out however many more plates you want or use the new plate you made to create multiple master grain jars and G2g from there. Eventually if you continue to g2g the mycelium begins to lose it's vigor but you still have that original master plate that has been stored properly which you can start the process over with. That original plate still has the original vigorous mycelium and hasn't been subjected to multiple transfers that weaken it. (senescence)

Just search for master and slave and a bunch will come up. I just read a good one recently but I don’t remember which.
But yeah you have a master plate and take the tiniest piece from it to another plate. Then you grow that plate out and use it to knock up jars except the last tiny piece you put to another plate and repeat.
Once the myc gets old and you take another tiny piece from the master and start over. The amount of shrooms you can produce from one master plate like this is ridiculous.
