Would this method work fine for small shoeboxes? Like, standard 6QT ones?

Hi BOD,
This is my third post, I've gone into detail as to why I'm here on the last one so I won't burden you/others with that here. Wanted to say thank you very much. Without these TEKs I'm not sure I would be on the path I am on of fundamentally changing my life and staying in this reality. <3
I followed your TEKs precisely and the result is the below monotub. I did two other shoeboxes with your TEKs and they are fruiting (YES!!!), but the monotub's surface looks different (the oat/coir ratio is way higher), so I am mildly concerned.
I am looking for feedback on how this tub looks and if there are signs of contam.
Monotub details: oats: 6 jars, 2,161g total

coir: 649g coir + 13.75c boiling tap water mixed into tub on November 19th
Temp daily avg 72-73 F RH daily avg 35%-38%
lighting: two T5
Misting: have only misted twice FAE: The lid has been turned over for 1 day now
This is what the tub looks like as of last night

Thank you!!!!!

9 days and only that colonized is a problem Oat jars 4 and 5 look bad and 6 looks funny. Those bad jars are the culprit

Thank you. I've just moved my 2 pinning shoeboxes away from the monotub and into a grow tent I just sanitized with antibacterial wipes + spraying 70% iso.
Would you use ANY of these jars for a second try at a monotub? These are the ones I have left. They have been colonizing for 4 weeks.

Thank you so much.

Yep. 8 days in and I'm pretty sure i've got an infection in there somewhere between 9 and 11 o'clock. I put a thin casing down to help prevent contams on my amended coco, and it's drying out a bit in that top left corner where the growth has been more tomentose, but just south of there is what I'm actually concerned about, there's a spot I can see from underneath that didn't get mixed well enough and didn't have any grains in a fairly wide patch, and its been slow to colonize in that area. now there's some kind of weird, more solid white growth that's tripping me a bit because of the amendments, probably got something very uncool brewing there. the mycelium has it surrounded, but I bet this tub doesn't make it past first flush. noobs - don't be like me and get cute with the ingredients! just follow the tek!

edited to add, here's the bottom:

now that I've got a photo I can see a hint of green to the growth. damn. worth taking this to fruit since this is "underground" and doesn't have airborne spores yet or should I just ditch it now?
Either way, on Sunday I'll spawn 5 jars of GT to straight coco in a different tub. Have a couple good looking plates going, and a few more streaked this afternoon. Somewhere in there we'll get a good flush i'm sure.

I'm quite new to this, and planning on following this tek.
My question is in regards to lighting. I read that it's not necessary with artificial light and that placing it on a shelf in a kitchen with ambient sunlight is enough?
I couldn't find a "gallery" but would love to see where you guys put your tubs and how the light is placed if any.
Thanks in advance!

I recently finished my first go at this tek. Got 4 nice full flushes. Tubs were in a closet that has a big sliding door. First flush I had my T5 grow light on 12 hours a day and the fruits were very small. This could have been from the sub having a little too much water OR could be the fact that these were golden teachers and first flush can be small with those. Nonetheless, I scrapped the light for flushes 2-4 and opened the sliding door ever so slightly so it’d get ambient light. Wow, the subsequent flushes produced a high quantity of nice large fruits. Very satisfied with this tek

is that what happens? I thought it was just to differentiate related posts within threads. apologies, this board has way more functionality than i'm used to on forums.
my tub is super close to finishing, should harvest within the week. the trich on the bottom took up about as much real estate as it could and now the mycelium is growing in to the spots where it has come and gone already. still going to toss it after this flush.

Anyone having issues these days with the gasket tubs in regard to either the production quality or how they are distributed? I can only find warped tubs and/or lids where the long sides along the upper rim are bowed out. The FAE is uneven because of this and it can cause dry spots. I feel like sterlite is saving money somewhere in the production line and skimping on quality or they are being stacked really high causing them to warp.

Oh nice! Thank you, that's really helpful information. I think I'll just have to give it a try and adjust accordingly

Haven't bought any in a while
you could probably preheat an oven to 180-200f the put it in there on a piece of parchment paper and let it get warm and bend it or use a hair dryer/heat gun. Or try different tubs. Just happened to be the ones i used but people are using different tubs now

Most anything short of a vacuum tube will suffice... I'd stay away from tubs that aren't clear, but mush will grow (just not purty ones)... tubs with no gasket work without the need to flip lid: the thread is full of innovative ways to turn, tilt, REMOVE the lids entirely and replace with saran wrap, I mean... with clean, healthy spawn, it's quite difficult NOT to grow mushrooms in some magnitude, experience learning to listen to the subs' needs will increase yield and productivity ... something as simple as popping one side of the lid loose can shave a day or two off pinning if the sub is slightly over saturated... it's a learning curve, your intuition and patience will be tested

That’s true faht I didn’t think of that. I’ve used modified gasket tubs for years and thought I’d get some more to try this and the new ones don’t fit together quite the same.
