 This is my best mono of Menace so far. Only problem was a ridiculous amount of side pins. I did this one with about 7 myco quarts of WBS, lid flipped at spawn, never misted, no top layer, but I think I'm going to try some monos with a top layer and see if it helps my side pins.

Look nice. I pack down my edges pretty well. I believe you can see it in my video. That might help with your side pins too.

Thanks for the reply. I definitely didn't pack the sides at all so I will rewatch the vid and give it a try.

Just MS to Bulk, most steps following Bods write-up's. I allowed him to work through my hands and i ended up with something beautiful and vastly more knowledge than before. Unfortunately, this tub contaminated before a second flush. Thankfully i got about 50 prints and a few clones, so hopefully i can keep this organism going.

So I have 3 Tubs (I went a little overboard on my jars) Depth of substrate is about 3.5" in all 3. Using triticale hybrid of wheat and rye (the only thing I can get around here unfortunately, but seem nearly the same as rye in size and moisture capacity).
A (spawn->bulk Aug 2,2019)
 B (spawn->bulk Aug 2,2019)
 C (spawn->bulk Aug 6,2019)

How do they look? I haven't got further than this yet (have had my fair share of failures.) Too wet? Too Dry? The sides/lid of all 3 tubs have condensation. What's next? According to Bod, I just maintain moisture from colonization to fruiting right? I can take more pics if anyone wants.

When i mix my grain with my substrate i put it in my tubs a gently pat down the mixture with the bottom of a jar. I like to have a very flat surface as I feel it benefits pinning.
The growth on these looks good though and I wouldnt be surprised if you saw a pin in the next few days.

Same here.. i like to tamp down the edges/surface. Never have side pins on first flush.

I know that doing this technically makes it a modified tub, and I’m sure people are already doing this, but for the fellow noobs who are having a problem with moisture control: I went ahead and cut the corners out of the gasket. This allows me to keep misting to a minimum, if I have to do it at all. Keeps the sides of the tub at the perfect moisture. Just use your scalpel
 Edit: the lid is still NEVER latched. If you’re going to disregard the tek and still latch the lid, then I would definitely modify the gasket as such.

Good idea with those sealed lids.. Do you flip them once pins start?
My shoeboxes have pretty loose fitting lids.. never need to mist. works great.

Nah I don’t differentiate between colonizing and fruiting, it’s put into “ fruiting” at spawning. This tek calls for a flipped lid the entire time, which worked for me and probably works well for everyone, but I was noticing my sub going dry twice a day. I don’t mind misting at all, but I’d rather the moisture in the casing be used before I have to keep applying water. I have a golden teacher tub that I just spawned 3 days ago and I’ve only misted once. This lil gasket trick as brought it up to the same effectiveness as a 6 hole poly-mono. It probably already works perfectly for everyone, just thought I’d post a lil trick for anyone who might Ben losing moisture.

Thanks for the input guys! The tubs have water droplets on the lid and sides, it's pretty wet in there and ~65% humidity outside, should I crack the lids more? Should I be concerned it's not 100% colonized on the surface? I see a lot of others that have full colonization

When you make a tub you have around one gallon of water used to make the substrate give or take. If that much water is disappearing by the first flush something's up. Your surface should stay plenty moist with at most a once a day misting even if your home's humidity is in the low 20% range.

I saw that anywhere from a half brick to full brick would work when mixing with 3 quarts of spawn. What would the ideal amount of sub be for mixing with 3 qts in a 32 qt tub? Thanks.

Half a brick would be good for that.
