This tek seems straight forward even for noobs. Flip lid as soon as spawn bulk, don’t touch till it colonized then monitor surface moisture. Keep it beaded, not wet or soaked. Once beads evaporate, mist it from high up so the fine mist lands on surface, let it evaporate then repeat. If it’s drying too quick, make airgap on lid smaller so it holds moisture longer. If too wet, make air gap bigger to help dry it out more

Bods video shows spawning to coir, he says to pat edges a bit to help side pinning, that’s what I did. It’s 3 days in so far. Keep you guys posted

Cool dude I am following this grow-Do you keep your substrate at field capicity or a little less-this is my main issue.Getting the right amount of moisture levels to begin with.I assume less as you can easily get wetter but not drier.

I've been using under field capacity coir only and still have surface moisture develop on it's own (in shoeboxes) just spawned my first mono for about a year now, so interested in seeing the differences in maintenance, yield per qt etc...

I put 1 brick of eco earth coir into 5 gallon plastic bucket with lid. Boiled 1 gallon water, then dumped into bucket with coir put lid on. Hour later I mixed it with wooden spoon. Put lid on again and let it sit for 3 hours. Then I dumped into my tub. Broke up larger chunks with fingers, dumped in spawn and mixed evenly as I could. Then leveled the surface without patting, just kinda stroking it with back of my hand. Patted very lightly the edges to hopefully prevent side pinning. I also soaked my grains for 15 minutes before dumping which I regret in a way, cuz I was literally gunna do franks mono tub ten, then I read this one and seen so many success in post I said fuck it. Taped up my holds and dumped spawn in, mixed and flipped lid. As I read this thread, I noticed the point was to watch your surface moisture and attend to it when your substrate tells you. If no beads of water on surface, do light mist, let it evaporate, then mist again, let it evaporate, mist again, etc

My field capacity seemed perfect. Picked up clump, no drips. Gave a moderate squeeze, several drops came out, squeezed harder more water came out, but outside surface wasn’t wet, just when sqeezed

I'm down closer to 3.1-3.2 qts per brick... weighed one they other day for fun:

It was 23g heavy, and still only used 3(to the rim) full qts that boiled for 10min or so while I busted the brick up for easier hydration... I recently prepped coir with 2.5 qts boiling water, and adjusted field capacity with cold tap water for immediate use after only an hour soak in the bucket... not ideal, but works if you're trying to get it done ... best to fully hydrate initially, and allow it cool overnight before use IMO

There's no light getting through my lids they're black and grey. So yes true if you have lids that truly are not transparent in any way.

Ahh... but that's not what you said...
Quote:

I believe that the term you've intended is translucency(allowing light to pass through): NOT transparency(clear, able to see through)... The statement is misleading

I have 7 quarts of colonized wbs and I went to target and found these exact tubs, but they are 32 quart tubs. I plan to use one tub with 3 quart jars, and 1 brick of coir. Now I will probobably have left over coir, my question is: how deep should my sub and spawn mix be for 32 qt tub?

3 qts to a brick is like 1:3-1:4... I hope your spawn is clean... I'd spawn 3 qts and 4 qts to 1/2 brick each into 2 tubs spawn depth is upto you, 2-4" is suggested... I shoot for 2.5-3" personally... sub calculator

Thanks again Caps. And thank you BOD for this trek!
I mixed 3 qrts to around 1/2 brick of coir. The sub measured up to 2 and half inches in depth.

Does depth really matter vs how much coir is actually there? Example, half a brick of coir with 3 qts spawn only has about 2.5 depth in 32 qt tub of this type shown OP

Yea I seen it Caps. Other tub I did the half brick did not meet 2.5 depth level. Maybe the block was not 650g. I had to add like a cup and a half more to get it to meet 2.5
