Hey ricky, I just ran my most recent batch of two bricks with 5.8 litres and it's over capacity again. Added at least 2 quarts vermiculite and I am about to open another bag of verm because it's still way too wet.
I've been finding these eco earth bricks getting way too wet every single time, I started at 6.4 litres, then tried 6, now 5.8. For a while I stayed around 6L and just added verm, but I'm starting to go through so much verm I need to dial it down. Next time I do it I'm going down to 5.4 or so. Thing is if you just compare the bricks there is easily 50-150 grams difference or more between some of them, even from the same 3 packs I notice there is huge variations. I don't have the ability to work with other coir brands at the moment, but I'm starting to think it's better to shoot way low with water content and just add it as you need it after the pasteurization is over.
If I had a bigger scale here I'd just weigh the bricks and figure out the perfect amount but my 2000g capcacity scale is in storage somewhere and I can't fuckin find it lol. If you have access to a scale or willing to buy one that's about the best way to do it I think with the insane variations in ecoearth coir

If I use 4 quarts of water 1 brick and verm I'd need at least 4-6qts of verm if not more. I dunno, maybe I'm getting sheisted on these coir bricks and they are way under the ~650g it's supposed to be

I'm using Bod's because I don't use Verm.
I checked a couple for weight and they were around 650g, some a little more, some a little less. I just squeeze it out as I load it. Takes a while, but not a big deal for a couple totesβ¦.The more annoying problem is that it isn't enough coir. 5-6 quarts of spawn with 1 brick of coir only gives me a bare minimum substrate depth (around 2.5 inches). Haven't figured out what gives...

maybe you have a death grip and your squeeze test is coming under field capacity?

I would love to believe that my incredible strength is the source of my problems.
I give it a good squeeze, don't really know if its too hard, but a lot of water comes outβ¦.

Weigh them? I use 3.5-3.6qts to 650g brick and spot on everytime... if I'm ever over, id just squeeze to feild capacity over a separate vessel by the handful just prior to spawning... to hell with a bunch of verm... I had bought some to start with, like we all did, not knowing any better, and still have 3/4 of the bag... I use it as a casing for trich when it pops up midflush... by not misting the area and leaving the verm as dry as ppssible, keeps it from spreading back to the surface of the verm and sporelating in open air... it still continues to spread throughout the sub, but can keep up with it and let the flush finish...

Hi, and thank you so much for all the info.
My embarrassingly noob question is, during the combined 'growing conditions' are you applying light throughout, including the early colonisation part? Thanks again. Urbz.

I tried again. Weighed the bricks to the gram. Multiplied by 5 which gave me 3.4 quarts (after converting from liters) per 650 brick. Came out really wet. I even cross checked my measuring vessel to make sure it wasn't offβ¦β¦
The positive is the extra forearm exercise squeezing 3 bricks worth of coir out. I don't know, maybe the the bricks come more hydrated in my area of the country??

My first ever attempt at growing, it's 100% Bod, agar, oats, coir, tub. Tried my best to stick to the TEKs word for word and I read this entire thread 3 times.
All in all, I'm happy with what I see for having absolutely zero experience. This is a 32 quart spawned at 1:2 (4 quarts of grain) about 17 days ago. Since I don't really know what I'm looking for, is there anything (other than sidepins) that stands out to you needing improvement for my next set of tubs?
Thanks, Bod, this is a fun hobby!

This looks sick dude. That fat fruit...
My only comment would be to make sure your surface isn't drying out. I see oats, so I'm assuming you didn't do any sort of casing. Doesn't look like you needed it. I also see some more knots forming, making way for some more pins.

Thanks! Yeah, I was a little afraid of things drying out too much, but after reading the thread it seems like new people had far better luck when they didn't mess with things too much so I kinda just let it do it's own thing. I had been giving it a very very light misting with an ultra fine mister every couple days when it seemed to be getting dry, but I quit doing that 3-4 days ago. I started 2 more tubs last week and put a very thin coir casing on top to see if that makes a difference.
This thing really blew up in the last couple days, prolly gonna pull the biggest fruits tonight and hope the rest finish up a little more evenly.
