I did pseudo-case it at spawn with about 1/4" of coir because I'm still not great at getting surface conditions right with no top layer. I must not have mixed it up evenly, you can see the gap in the middle, which fruited second flush. I flipped the lid after a week and misted once. I had to leave them too long because I was gone for the holidays.

You have a pic of that pinning? Looks fantastic
Unfortunately, no... It looks better than it was, the stems were a bit thin and hollow so I won't use that clone again. The pinset was the best I've had though.

What's up Bod. Been a while since I read thru this and seems like you may have made some changes. Idk.
Getting bored of shoeboxes, think I'll graduate to tubs. I see you shelve them now. Gotta pic of your light setup? I assume you have a vertical fixture covering multiple levels, or one per each shelf level.
Happy to see your still so active.

So you flip the lid the day you spawn, but when do you start misting for ideal surface conditions -- when fully colonized??

These look like they're starting to form primordia with all the little white dots.
Worried about overlay / surface conditions. Case, or leave them alone?

Overlay is not a concern with cubensis... the pins will push through matted surface ... looks like it's about to explode with pins!
Casing or not depends on your climate and practices... if you feel it dries to quickly without restricting FAE roo much, a casing or top layer will help... if you were going to case or top layer, I'd do it now and apply carefully... many of us are doing 1/4-1/2" top layer of coir only at spawn with great results

I seem to be misunderstanding this , is the lid always flipped upside down with the blue aquarium seal facing the ceiling? Or is it, during colonization the lid is on with the blue aquarium seal facing the plastic, and you just dont clamp the handles shut? Then for fruiting conditions flip the lid with the blue seal facing the ceiling once at 50-80 colonized?

On the first page of this TEK, BOD has a photo showing his stack of tubs and the colonizing one on top had the lid with seal facing down toward the plastic. Only confused because some steps contradict others.

after having done some trials I put my tubs into fruiting conditions(lid upside down for air gaps) immediately. I have noticed faster colonization times, faster times to pinning as well. Cubensis is an aerobic organism, While some old books talk about high co2 during colonization my own tests show clearly that FAE right away is superior. Try it out for yourself and do your own side by sides and let the community know.

on my. haha.
honestly, use whatever combo of flipped lid, askew lid, latched lid you need to obtain proper conditions.
every ones ambient conditions vary so do whatever works. during the first few days if it looks too dry its probably perfect.

I try so hard people find the most nitpicking details lol. Fucking aye gotta take new pics because the tek itself wasn't clear enough.

This! I've always looked at tek as a solid foundation to work outward from... some people will interpret "field capacity" to be wetter/dryer than others initially... couple this with variances in climate and other practice, and you end up with tubs from one end of the spectrum to the other, performing similarly under different configurations

Also this... I typically don't see surface moisture until a day or two after full colonization, at which point I let it develop fully on it's own, and nearly dry completely before misting... when misting, do so lightly keeping in mind that you're only returning surface moisture, and not hydrating the substrate: which can be done with a short dunk or heavy misting between flushes

How long are you typically going between spawn and full colonization?
