If you’re using the tub bod specified you should be fine with it upside down.
Just make sure the substrate surface isn’t saturated.

Did you check field capacity of the coir before spawning? How often are you misting?

Couple days... seems slow... what was your spawn ratio? Over feild capacity maybe?

1:2 spawn ratio, checked field capacity and haven't misted because surface moisture has always been present, no pooling though. It looks pretty colonized today, what else could I do to help speed up pinning?

Light, fae and humidity with evaporation.  Mushies fruit when there rdy, as long as they have what they need. My PES amazons that i had a while back would colonize in about 7-8 days, id fruit after 12 and no matter what, they would not pin until somewhere after day 21-24. But they where worth the wait

So one of my tubs has started to side pin, the good news is that there are pins on top too. Any reason why it might've side pinned?
My other tub which was spawned at the same time hasn't pinned yet so I'm hoping to fix the conditions so it won't side pin. Here are some photos:

You have great knotting on sub surface but it's on the verge of being too dry for them to develop into young fruit bodies.
Give it a good mist for 2 feet away for those tiny tiny droplets to accumulate and fill the surface. You will have amazing pinning on top if you can just get the knots to develop further.

I've not misted because the moisture level seemed to be good up until now, but generous misting you think?

Be careful not to overcompensate with misting. It can make things worse. I don't advise going above just one or two sprays

Just noticed some blue bruising on one of the spots, I guess it's confirmation that the sub is too dry. Advice on where to go from here?

Just give it a normal mist a few sprays from above and see tomorrow how it looks, if it still need a bit water give it a few more sprays

Does this bulk spawn technique work with BRF cakes? If so, would yields be better if the BRF cakes are dunked for 24 hours and then broken apart by hand before mixing into boiled coir?

You'll get bigger spawn volume if you don't dunk the cakes before spawning. If you dunk then you'll get more of a slush. You don't want the cake to be like a wet sponge when you grate it.

So I've been misting more regularly since yesterday, no new pins since yesterday and the ones that did come up look stalled. Everytime I mist I would notice that the water dries up quite quickly i.e there is no beading on the surface. Does this mean that my substrate is too dry? Any advice on where to go from here?

Spawned nov 30, its a bit dry, I used 3.5l to 1 650g brick of coir... I should have used 4l but i have been light misting 2x a day.  How is she looking? I noticed its starting to pull away from the tub and I assume due to the dryness and the myc doing its thing.  I do not see any bruising.

Ive had success resusitating dry surface conditions with a humidifier.  I grow in a closet and can get rh to 99%.
