May be drying,or overmisted... either will cause matting, not in horrible shape though

I haven't misted at all yet, I wasn't sure if it was fully colonized or not and ready for fruiting. I've just had the lid on upside down, and I was planning on setting it on there sideways to let it air out, but I wanted to see what you guys had to say first before I possibly ruined it.
There are beads of water all over the substrate, but it doesn't look any different than some of the photos I see here, also, the sides of the tub and the lid are covered in condensation, which I thought was a good sign, but this is my first grow other than PFtek.
Is it a good idea to set the lid on at a 90 degree turn? Do you think at this stage the sub is fully, or close to fully colonized?
Just a quick edit: I am using this thread as a measure for the surface moisture, but mine isn't quite this saturated, the beads are much smaller. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053

Id leave it only flipped: no need to turn for fae unless it's super humid, or the sub is overhydrated ... I'd lightly mist that corner... you're getting adequate FAE or it wouldn't be drying

I've got a tub that's going or went dry, matted up. I'm guessing a possible way to recover something would be floating it in water for a few hours..?
I think I definitely need more than my usual 7L coir/3L spawn for an 80q.

Might set a pot of water on top to submerge it completely, and then leave the lid open for a few hours... pins will push through the matting, and some of my largest fruit have come from substrates that had become matted for whatever reason
Take the dimensions of your tub and plug them into this formula to determine substrate needs

Awesome, thank you Caps.

A bit smaller fruit than I was hoping for, but not a bad flush. I already harvested about 80 grams that were way ahead of the pack.

thegiantwithin said: Hate to bump and old thread, but when you say, "yield 1-2 oz per quart using MS cultures.", are you talking per quart of spawn or per quart of colonized substrate?
Thanks
That's referring to quarts of spawn
P.S. This thread is still very active because it works very well, you're just part of the convo now!

The spawn is most of your nutrition, bulk mix is primarily water retention IMO... I do 1:1 in fact... 1:10 is commercial ratios, and used with more nutritious bulk composts: which is unnecessary and a w waste of resources for our applications

A little update on my first tub, I had to harvest some before I got more spores everywhere. It's not the wall to wall canopy I was hoping for, but i'm happy so far. I don't think i'll be messing with modified tubs at all.

Came home from work to this Sporsplosion, but oh well. damaged some of the caps from harvesting some last night.

So I did what you recommended and I'm starting to see some pins popping up, but now I am noticing.g some discoloration in that thick white spot. Here are a few pictures, along the edges of the tub wall it's looking a little brown, and in the last pic it looks a little bluish green near the middle at the top.

IMO, it's metabolites and bruising (likely from heavy mist falling) I'm not concerned, I'd just let it do it's thing : well on your way to #frootz!

I think you'll find it more trouble than it's worth... but I don't suppose it'd be necessary to even have them in tubs at all in a GH
