Those white spots are knots... those will form primordia, which will grow into pins... you're close!
Edit: i see them on the right side of the second photo now

I'm getting awesome 1st flushes but having terrible luck with anything beyond. After I harvest and float the loaf for a few hours a couple days go by and I start spotting the white trich. Could it still be hitchhiking from the original spawn, or perhaps I'm not being tidy enough when I harvest, or maybe the room they're in isn't clean enough? Thoughts?

Bacteria in the spawn coupled with excess moisture or insufficient FAE weakening the culture through first flush, then having problems recovering harvest surgery... Just

I like that. I've suspected that I do indeed have a bacteria that has been in my agar transfers, though I think I've slowly been transferring it out. It has been making my spawn wet'ish but it doesn't seem to attack the mycelium, just impede it. So then said bacteria could just be overall weakening my tubs enough to invite trich into the scene?
Thanks Caps

Hey bod would this tub tech work with any substrate? Or is it specifically for coir?

It'll work with any substrate that'll work with traditional monotubs

Hey all, I'm back! I posted a couple pages ago about not getting condensation on the sides. Well, I decided to mist twice a day. The condensation still leaves after about 8 hours. I even put the lid on right side up for a day and yes, it did keep the condensation in, the substrate still seemed to dry. No small moisture beads on the substrate. Anyway, this is what I have now, 14 days after putting into fruiting conditions. Looks a mess and looks like some contams are around the corners now too. It's just a mat.
I'm dunking right now to get some of that moisture back in. We will see. I am correct in assuming though that this looks very matted, right?

Eek... the dunk will likely exacerbate contamination issues...

Completely agree. But its definitely the worst looking monotub I've ever had as it stands anyway. I am just still completely perplexed as to why I am having moisture issues and nobody else is. I think my coir is mutant.

My vote is for letting that bitch just dry out next time to see what happens. I think you might actually get a good flush if they can make it to 100% colonization Before your drying issues completely take home

Not entirely relevant to your post, but this seems like an appropriate place to drop this in. After nursing a couple less-than-stellar tubs to an ok first flush, I had to dump the substrates when I left town for a couple weeks. I wound up sticking them in a couple trash cans with assorted yard waste at the bottom and covered them lightly with standard potting soil, just to see what would happen. I reported on here earlier that I came home two weeks later to a pretty nice second flush from both cans, but I forgot to snap a pic before harvesting.
The subs were dumped in the trash cans on July 27th. One of the cans just keeps spitting out small clusters of cubes on a semi-regular basis. Here are a couple pics. One from about a month ago and one from minutes ago:

This should bring total yield from the trash cans up to ~100 grams dried, or thereabouts. I'm amazed it's still producing! (note: the other can produced one flush and then quit producing).
Not sure what the moral of the story here is, but given what I'm experiencing over here, it seems like small differences in exact harvest method, etc. aren't likely to make a huge difference. I could be wrong.

Awesome Clan. Yes, I do similar things with my spent/contaminated tubs and spawn. But I want to keep my loaf going for at least a good 2nd flush.

On another note.. I liked Caps advice about tamping down the substrate more to prevent side-pinning. 4 days in and I've been noticing significantly less moisture collecting on the sides and lid, implying that more moisture is trapped in the substrate. Anything to this?

got some fruits from my minitub!

the bottom left corner is starting to look a little concerning, it has a bit of a yellow hue to it. is this a contaminate? i looked through the contaminate forum but couldnt find something that looked similar
so for the next flush i just pour some water in the tub, let it sit for a few hours then dump it out, then it ready to start fruiting again?
