Pipe, you'll be fine man. Lid on when you're not home lid off when you are so you can keep an eye on things. You'll have to do bulk substrates more than a handful of times to get an eye for it. Just keep posting pictures and trying

I wish I had come across this tek 6-9 months ago when I first started to try to figure out how to grow mushrooms and began to slowly accumulate the materials needed to do so.
Not enough discussion yet in the forum for a first-timer trying to figure things out to easily come across this (even though this was posted in 2015. ) It eluded me.
The main upside to this is, when not growing, having an ordinary tub around isn't anywhere in the realm of being as suspicious looking as a tub with holes curiously drilled into it. Upon having guests over, or when moving, no one is going to ask why you have a storage bin lying around, however... with one that has holes drilled into it.. cue the questions, awkward lying, lingering suspicions.
God forbid if you were in a situation with cops coming into your home and they see a tub with holes in it, their eyes will light up like a motherfucker and condemn you right then and there as being some diabolical druggy mad scientist needing to be cleansed from the community for the sake of women and children.
Given all that, yeah, I've seriously considered cutting up and trashing my monotub once I'm done with my grow just to eliminate the potentially incriminating evidence. When wanting to do a grow again in a year or two from now I thought I'd just get another tub. Your tek would obviously spare all that waste - environmentally and financially (although I think the type of plastic the tubs are made with are recyclable) - in addition to sparing a lot of anxiety.
I'm sure this angle was discussed in the thread -- just trying to beef up the discussion in hopes of generating more search results for future newbies trying to plot how to go about cultivating for the first time.
Also...
CONGRATS TO YOU ON EARNING TRUSTED CULTIVATOR STATUS, BODHI!! I'm 99.5% sure 2 days ago you weren't one.

Cops come in and ask what's this stuff and sometimes it doesn't even end up on your charges. Sometimes it fucks you. You don't get caught if you grow for yourself and no one knows about it. Your tubs can be as stealth as can be but it won't matter with swat goons in your place what your shit looks like if you have a bag of dried ones around at all.
I like that I can use them to move shit later on and they look kosher going in and out of a truck.
Thanks for posting here
As far as search goes try this
Main posts only, one result per thread, newer than 4-5 years, has images, (TC tag option too if you want i usually search both ways) Then has more than 250 words to weed out non tek type threads. Search terms are fruiting chamber TEK In subject and body but only main posts And only search mushroom cultivation
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/dosearch.php?where=body&tosearch=main&how=all&words=Fruiting+chamber+tek&newerval=5&newertype=y&minwords=200&limit=25&forum=f2&showmain=1&image=1&sort=r&way=d
Just an example for better results.

Well with that whole TC tag filter for searching: hopefully folks will start seeing you, and this tek specifically, pop up more in their search results!
I know I've done a lot of TC only searches - even early on.
Thanks for the other helpful specific search tips. Should be more of that as opposed to the ubiquitous generalized "use the search" admonition you see made throughout the site by users.

This is how it looks like now 8 days in

Do I need to keep the lid just upside down or is it good to put it at 90 degree angle?

I kept these ESS tubs around just to show how hard it is to contaminate coir substrates

Spawned on 1/12/17 First pins 1/24/17 Harvested first flush 2/2/17
Pictured 3/6/17
On the 5/6th flush
53-54 days old. shrunk, covered in spores, torn up, chunks missing, and no mold anywhere
Bad spawn fucks tubs.

I was trying to get some big dark prints from this variety but its a good example that green isn't an expectation after a couple flushes

Walls only set during colonization or if I mist them. If you have the lid half off the walls will dry up in a less than an hour if they had any water on them.
If the surface is dry mist. If it dries to quick put theid on more or more often

They have Sunblaster T5 lights that would work great for this tub setup. They are meant to sit on top of a Tub or tray with a humidity dome...Another option...relatively cheap. Nice Tek Bodhi.

Look it up, it took you longer to post here in an irrelevant thread than it would have to look it up.
If you don't have a food dehydrator use the oven the whole time. It makes no sense to fan then oven if you have an oven to begin with.

I've had pretty good success with my first run at these. Only problem I seem to have had is drying up way to quick even when I have lid fully on. I have imperfect lid but it still drys up faster than it should. Although, area is kept cool to save on heat bill. Anywhere from average 63 to 68. Sometimes gets down to 60 in that area. So I have oil filled radiator in area with to keep them around 75 to 80. I was always told they were way better than space heaters as the fact they don't blow air doesn't dry the air out as much. Still drys up pretty quick. I even have a humidifier in area but, to no avail. I just have to stay on top but every morning they pretty dry. Still did OK. I gather once the room temp is a Lil better in a month or 2 they should do a lot better as far as that goes.

Do you measure how much water you boil and use for each brick of coir or do you just eye gauge it?

About 4 quarts or one gallon works with the coir I buy.
