Is my tub looking healthy??? [Re: bodhisatta]

Okay so this is my first monotub so bear with me here. I made my coir with 3250 grams of water instead of the 4 quarts. So I started this off on the drier side. Realized my mistake somehow after I made the tub. I decided to stick with it and just mist as I seen the top dry. So here is my tub 7 days 12 hours after spawn. Can anyone help me out here. Is it looking good or naw??

Hard to really tell in the photo if it's wet enough. However if you used 3250 g of water and 650g of coir that would be the correct amount recommend by bods tek. Plus field capacity is what to look for.

Hmm it doesn't look to dry to me.. I think you may have sick spawn since it hasn't taken over much of the substrate by now.

Dirty spawn. Start over. Heres a shot of 4 quarts spawn: 4 quarts coir i spawned on 8.28.18 for comparision.

Fruiting at spawn. Flipping the lid when i sleep to conserve some moisture.

Well alright then. That picture was good for a visual comparison... I figured it wasnβt looking right. Just kinda stalled out but I donβt know what to look for here as far as growth rate. Anywho. I spawned 2 more tubs last night. And if I scrap this I actually have 5 qt ready to go. Just wish I would see some mushies some time soon as I did it all from scratch. Made agar and ordered the damn gl45 Pyrex and the whole shebang. So now some 3 months later Iβm a little disappointed in my first tub. Canβt lie. Though the thought that Iβve got 7 qt spawn and 2 more totes going keeps me wondering if Iβm not on the right track at least.

You can spot dirty spawn in agar and in mason jars. You just gotta post pics for people to help you identify it. Depending on how they look i either go for a mono or shoeboxes if i think a jar has little to no chance of fruiting.

I don't know if this is just a new model of the 54q sterilite tub, but there's a gap around the whole lid. should i just flip it upside down and see what happens?
this is my first tub like this so i'm a bit worried about the substrate drying out.

I have this EXACT same problem right now. I colonized completely with the lid "right side up". I then flipped the lid and noticed the gaps all the way around.
Well... The next day when I woke up (9 hours after the first flip) and ALL condensation was gone from the sides and lid.

This confuses me. Adjust how? There are only two options. Flip the lid. Don't flip the lid.
Lid flipped = no condensation... My substrate is drying out and I have to mist 3 times a day. No good. These are supposed to be set and forget (to a degree).
Lid not flipped = condensation returns. But no airflow.
My field capacity. 676g coir brick. 3380g water. Used 3500g for evaporation and small spillage anticipation.
So what gives? These new models of lids? There IS a gap around the entire lid. I do notice that if I put another tote on top... Evap is slower. But I am switching to shelves soon so this won't be feasible.
Any thoughts anyone?

If you do everything right you have to try to dry your substrate out. You can leave the lid entirely off and all you have to do is surface misting daily till fruiting. If you didn't mist the surface would dry but the substrate would still have plenty of moisture. 3.2-4 liters of water isn't disappearing in a week or two

What about lid flipped and using duct tape or packing tape on portions of the sides of the lid and connect it to the tub to cover gaps and restrict airflow? I'm kinda right now, trying to explain the best I can.
Edit: this is one of those situations where i bet you can fix it with the tools you have at home and some creativity

Im trying that dude sgfchamberβs (the ogg unmodified dude) where he has the lid flipped during the day and closes it at night. I drain the mono once a day in the am any excess moisture that builds up over night on the periphery. @tokey have you considered misting once a day if that and leaving it alone? Less is more and a matted surface can be detrimental.

Ahhh. So what I'm gleaming from this is that I shouldn't worry too much about the surface moisture as long as the substrate stays "wet". Which... It will. Lol. Thanks bod. Logic.

However since evaporation is a pinning trigger.... I do wonder if not misting as often will cause a weak pinset. Only time will tell I guess!

I'll cut down the misting and let the surface dry out. We shall see!

Bod has picks of literal complete neglect zero misting . They look and produce awesome in his climate which he says is dry af.

You can latch 1-4 latches to seal FAE up in intervals, or turn the lid at an angle for progressively larger gaps at opposite corners to increase FAE... literally an array of varying degrees from none to all... Not simply "flipped or not flipped"... if the sub starts to dry, ADD WATER! These aren't unmanageable conditions... attention, and eyes for details/basic understanding of the needs of your variety

Its been humid for the first time all year this month. And ive been having to shake the condensation off of my lids every day because they drip onto the caps and make em uggo

Does removing the lids everyday cause you to have to mist more or anything? I constantly have tons of condensation on my lids. My grow room is ~55% humidity this time of year. Should I be constantly shaking the droplets off? Everytime I remove the lid I must be very careful to not drop water all over the substrate. The condensation usually starts building up a little before full colonization.

Depends on surface moisture: if they seem dry, I'd tap the lid before removing to maintain surface moisture... if there are droplets on the surface, shake it dry (if necessary, a little won't bother anything)

Hi guys, first B+ tub loads of questions! Spawned on 16th August with 1200g spawn and 2400g coir and this is it today 17 days later.
First question, is this fuzzy feet? if so do i just up the FAE?
This grow is MS 3 transfers to Agar to Oats then G2G. Which group/fruit would you guys take a clone from?

I also did a shoebox at the same time with the same grain 500g to 500g coir and this is what it looks like with just a couple of side pins, what am i doing wrong with this one!
thank you for all the info and help, Kerberus.
