I always get 7-8% return and almost never 10%
Is this for all different types? I was using b+ if that matters

How long can I expect grain jars to last fully colonized?
I kinda went from zero to hero real quick and have three tubs going with enough jars for 3 more, not sure I have the room to have 6 going at once.

I think conditions play more a roll than variety... moisture content will be higher (more wet weight) with a moist substrate... had an outdoor tub come in at 192,and dry up to 20.9... that's almost 11%

Yeah variety does have certain characteristics that repeat themselves, but as for your yields I don't think variety generally matters all that much.
Grow enough of the same variety via MS and you'll see all kinds of different fruits

Thanks! Hopefully next time I will not be on a weekend vacation and be home to pick before the spores drop.

Ugh. So the photos I posted a couple days ago, the surface looked a little blue in the photos, I thought it was just the lighting (and so did my accomplice, who took the photos).
Turns out the surface has been drying out and it is actually blued.
Hoping for recovery after getting rid of the fan (which was running on low in a closet due to concerns about air circulation in a closet), and an aggressive misting schedule.
So much for being worried that the ziploc style tubs weren't going to give enough FAE.

Hi there,
First-time grower here. I'm concerned about bluish patches on my substrate. I have read many conflicting explanations about under/over hydration of the substrate and bruising.
Here is my surface after day 15 (rye berries, g2g spawn, coir, unmodified 54qt sterilite):
(whole tub)

(close up of bluish (bruised) area in top left)

(close up of bluish (bruised) area in bottom left)

(close up of surface with transition between bluish area and white)

(close up of bluish surface)

(close up of white surface)

Other info: - the sides of the tub above the substrate do not have condensation. The sides of the tub where the substrate is do have condensation. -the substrate appears to be contracted slightly from the sides of the tub. -the RH of my city is ~61%. -the tub is in my room. I run a window AC unit in my room to keep it at 20Β° C. -I do not have a light set up. I have a lot of natural light in my room during the day. -I keep the lid upside down, and mist approximately once a day. My roommate has left the lid ajar once or twice for a period of several hours.
Questions: - Is this bruising - if so what is the cause and potential solution? More so, what IS bruising? - do I need to change from keeping the lid perpetually upside down, in order to promote more pins on the surface?
Thank you Bod for this great TEK - I really appreciate your principles based approach to growing.

That looks dry to me. Remember ac units dry the air a lot. Thereβs actually no need for ac unless it gets over 30 inside. It can be done but you risk more contamination. That lid needs to be adjusted according to your conditions. You can never let the substrate dry too much.
What is bruising? Itβs the reaction to you suffocating it.

Bruising usually comes from dry environment and not from "suffocation"
