clean spawn is great and all but most ideal conditions is still what leads to best flush ultimately... if your surface is all fucked then the pins just aren't going to fully form.
So far for me, surface is always in much better shape when fruiting at spawn versus letting colonize.

Hey bod, have you been canting the lid 90 degrees while you're home on these tubs right from the get go now that you're skipping the colonization phase entirely? I think I'm gonna try doing it from day 1 with regular misting to compensate on my next tubs.

I had to go out of town on Friday and when I left I had some pins and some that had pinned a few days before and were growing pretty well. On Sunday when I got back I had a full canopy that had their caps inverted and much darker than normal. I threw them in the dehydrator but are they rotten? Did I harvest too late to eat them? Iām really bummed as this was my first grow and it turned out so well aside from the late harvest...

Well damn. I had high hopes for this one being faster after fully colonizing in 4 days. Oh well. This is the patience part, cause mushrooms dont follow any schedule but their own.

Ever grow weed? Or worse, cacti!? Mushrooms are speed demons, just blink and they'll be done! Lol... easier to say with too many mushies to eat, but truly is no time

I was in a huge rush and stupidly didnāt take any pictures, I was also thinking it was just spores, any signs I would look for to show rotting? How dangerous would eating them be if they were harvested too late?

So are people flipping the lid right off the bat?! Is that what is being meant by "no colonization phase"?

r
harvested first flush today.
1033g = 36oz wet.
this was 4 quarts spawn in a 29qt tub, using about half of a 650g coir brick plus 2 quarts verm.
that works out to a yield of 9oz wet per quart of spawn, or about 258g wet yield per quart.
beginner's luck. i'm very pleased with the result. will report dry weight once they're done drying.
thank you to all the experienced members who have shared your knowledge.
edit: dry weight 94g (3.3oz), which works out to a wet water percentage of 91%.
Very good info -
I have been reading some how-to posts for beginners
I have already purchased a few grain bags. Can I apply the same principles you have outlined and just follow the TEK?
Also - for a beginner looking for a very very simple TEK - which one would you recommend?

Well folks with all your help I did it. Here is my first flush. I went out of town for the weekend and last night I came home to this. Any guesses on how many grams wet?

Honestly bro if I were you I would do the read the rules kit don't mention sponsors. I've done three bags and for beginners with sterile tek they are great! I actually found this unmodified tek in the middle of fruiting following the instructions from the kit. so I cut the tops of my bags off after my first flush and did the second flush in the unmodified tub. They grew way better and way faster in the tub. The kit though just gets you going if you are new. Makes it a lot easier and if you just want to keep them in the bags you will still get good results.

Oh without a doubt. I've read tons of these threads watching knew people take on the whole thing at once and getting frustrated. ***** kit allows you to start slow and get results as you learn the process. My next grow I'm gonna do the bods coir tek with shrooms supply sterilized rye bags in a unmodified tub. Baby steps brother...

Interesting, because I've seen a good amount of threads where people are getting really bad results because they decided to use a kit and kits are stupid

I mean honestly I think it just comes down to following instructions. Using gloves and a SAB, flame sterilization, and good temps. Also getting spores from reputable vendors. I mean I got over an ounce (dry) from my last flush with one bag sooooo IDK. Moving forward I will do my own substrate skip the bag straight into the unmodified tub. After I master that try and do my own rye or oats. I can only speak for ******** kit though. I wouldn't use any other kit that's for sure. Just my advice to new people though. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
