Diastamasta said: Back Story: 3rd monotub. Golden Teachers using BODs Easy AF teks. Spawned these oats to coco 15 days ago. Initially I had been using a fan in the grow closet but realized that I may have dried out the surface and fucked it. Have since stopped using a fan. There are tons of knots on the surface but I am dealing with 84F - 86F temps during the day 40-60% RH and am having to mist 2-3 times a day to keep surface moisture up even with the lid flipped and seated to manage fast evaporation of surface moisture.
1) How does the surface look. Too wet/too dry? I recently misted but it doesnt really bead up anymore. There are lots of knots. How do i make them into pins?
2) . I was at work (12hrs) and the substrate dried up a bit on the sides dispite using bubble wrap on the surface. The sides pulled away giving me TONNES of side/bottom pins. Does this effect top pinning yields? Would putting the lid on the way the way i do for colinization (not latched) be advisable during 12 hour days?
My last two tubs I had covered the spawn with small amount of casing and had a fan on it and had better pins on the top and minimal side pinning but I had to mist way too often. My next two tubs are exposed grains. They are colonizing very fast. 3 days in and the surface is 50-60% covered with fluffy white goodness. I have stopped using a fan in order to preserve surface moisture and to avoid the issues i had last time.
3) . Should I put these to "growing conditions" now or wait? What do you mean exactly by 100% colonized? Just the surface or the whole substrate?
Stilll learning. Thanks for your work!!
Any comments on how the surface looks would be appreciated!

Can this easily withstand being left alone for 2 whole days every week? I am usually not home during the weekends. And I really like it that you don't hole up the tote boxes, in case you want to use them for something else later on.

Yeah thats what I thought. 86 degrees out doesn't help that. Surprised im not seeing any bacteria pop up tho so thats good. At least I know I have good clean grains. Would casing the matted areas with some pasturized, wet coco help possibly?
thanks

Iβm in the fruiting stages of my first grow and am happy with my Pinset so far. The corners of my tub have been looking a little dry the past couple days so Iβve missed them a couple times. Today there is a yellowish tint to the mycelium in those spots. Is this contam or just a case of over misting?

Not necessary, the pins will push through

Could be a little bacteria, or a sign of rapid growth, where the mycelium is creating more waste by way of metabolism than it can get rid of by way of resorbtion ... no worries

boom boom said: Any thoughts on my AA+ tub? Pseudo-cased at spawn. Started misting 1-2 times a day before full colonization, because I've had major surface condition issues on previous grows. Lid left on and upside down pretty much all the time. Seems to be a nice pinset coming in but there's a few trouble spots, and despite these sitting in my closet at consistently 66-74 degrees, with plenty of light, I'm getting heavy bruising again.
48 hours later and I already have the biggest shrooms I've ever grown, and the veils aren't even close to breaking.
I'm gonna clone the big one in the middle of this cluster.
Yesterday was the first time I ever tried tilting the lid 90 degrees while I was at home. I misted every hour or two while I was doing that. Today they made huge progress while I was at work. I'm gonna make that a daily routine when I'm home.

Yeah I'm gonna let them grow some more but right now that one looks like the leader, and it's right in the middle of a dense cluster to boot.

As you guys know this is my first tub and I am heading out of town over the weekend and hoping for some tips on this tub as its been a dicy first run... I think the coir was not damp enough initially, now it seems drier on top and shrooms are starting to pin on the sides (which I think Iβve read somewhere means the top surface growing conditions are not good enough/the sides are better).
Also the caps on top look odd to me compared to when I grew them from jars before switching to tubs - are they dry? I use a lamp 12 on/12 off and think it contributes to the drying. Iβve misted daily but not sure itβs good enough.
Here are pics showing the current state (side pinning, moisture levels/caps) Howβs it looking to you?
Any tips on how to set it up best for being away the next 3 days?

Looks ok to me, an occasional light misting and increased FAE wouldn't hurt, but not too much FAE before heading out of town... maybe mist it before you go, and increase FAE when you return? Not bad my friend!

Starting to look like a proper mono.
Not one fuckin side pin so far. They don't seem to like the edges of the tub at all really but I'm not complaining.
