Oats are easier to prep IMO. No pulling floaters, easier to get moisture right.
Plus oats smell good when cooking and sterilizing, unlike WBS that smells super funky.
Those are my reasons for preferring oats over WBS. (Although right now I'm liking wheat berries over either)

I'm about to try the newest iteration of this tek, where fruiting conditions are initiated at the beginning.
This will be my fourth attempt.
I am pressure cooking my coir for three hours at 15 PSI, just to be overly thorough. I know you can sterilize using much less.
I'm adding more spawn this time to my tubs, hoping for quicker colonization.
Using the exact kinds of tubs that OP uses, with the exact same lights.
Wish me luck on attempt #4! Here is hoping I can learn what the problem is with my contams.
I wouldn't say its a version. You can do whatever you want with colonization/fruiting conditions. Colonization conditions don't cause contamination. People used to wrap their entire tubs in a black trash bag then shove em in a closet. And that didn't cause contamination either but it was dumb.

It is not the tek that causes it to contaminate, it is your spawn not being clean.
I think I get what you guys are saying; but my spawn looks clean! It's white and nice looking. I break it up and see no contams.
I guess I'll look harder, and try more diligently. Thank you for your input friends.

Contaminant spores are tricky: even a well trained eye can miss them, and they aren't always so far gone that they impede on that lovely mushie scent... but if you're contaminating prior to first flush, it's 100% in your spawn... either your spores (print or syringe) are dirty, or you have some work to do on your sterile technique... were you using a SAB?

Here's a bag from last round that had contaminants, but I used it and it still pumped out a flush before total contamination.
The more I learn the simpler it is.. All about the spawn and how clean it is.

I am using an SAB to inoculate my oats, along with a liquid inoculation technique I found somewhere on the forums here. Where you sterilize a jar of water, plop the colonized agar into it and shake.
I know it's more prone to error than say, just tossing a wedge of agar in your oat jars but it colonizes so quickly. Works amazingly 70% of the time.
I'm using bod's oat prep tek as well.
Thank you so much for your reply. I've been struggling with bad spawn for years. I probably need to rework all of this from the ground up and really analyze my spawn prep.

A2G generally takes about 4 days to colonize IME... how much faster is LI?

4 days is like my G2G speed and sometimes its not even that fast.
I doubt if A2G can finish in less than a week

Yeah G2G is fairly quick but 4 days is max speed IME
LI is super fast for me... I haven't counted the actual days but LI jars are fully colonized without any shakes in about half the time as my G2G jars and about 1/4th of the time of A2G

Well, time to find out how much babysitting the ziploc 60qt weathershield tubs require.
Spawned just now to CVG with 7 quarts of wheatberry spawn.

Second tub incoming in a couple days, just as soon as these puppies finish:

How is that even possible? The wedge itself takes like 2 days just to recover. So the wedge goes from 0 to a fully colonized jar in 2 days? I think you mis-spoke here. I don't believe A2G is even possible in less than 10 days, minimum. If you have documented posts showing otherwise, please do share.
With that said, LI can actually legit get 100% in 4 days if you pour enough and shake it enough to evenly coat all the grains.

Half a 10 day old culture into 100ml water into 4 jars, 5 days later:

Cod have been nice if the inoculation had been clean lol had to toss it when I spotted some green around the rim of the lid a few days later when I opened it
LI has always colonized in around 5-7 days tops for me.
A2G never been able to finish within a month :/ bad grain prep I guess

The agar recipe I used was soft, had to scoop it from the tray, used the entire petri... when I shook it, it basically liquefied... I saw recovery in less than 24

This looks fluffy and weird compared to you guyβs pics. Too humid? Bacterial? Iβll say that Iβm aware that Iβve made a lot of mistakes this first time like the level surface, and not cleaning the sides. I assume thatβs why the myc is climbing the sides.
