Completely eliminating noise from a fish tank pump
    #2233704 - 01/10/04 08:07 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Tie a rubber band (or two) around the pump (one of mine has a convenient plastic tab). Put a nail in a location where the pump can hang free, then use rubber bands again to suspend the pump. Complete silence.. Most of the sound from then pump comes from the fact that they vibrate the shelf they are on, this way the bands dissipate all the vibration.

I ended with the same result by putting it on a small piece of carpet.

yeah i folded up a very soft blanket and it works perfect for me. Where do you hang the fish pumps with your rubberband method? Or do you just set it on the ground

The rubber-band method used to be a staple over at Overgrow. Great for ghetto eeb/flow systems. I used one. It eliminates all vibration hence noise.

I also use the rubberband method but I figured that one out on my own out of necessity. I've also placed them on a polyfilled box to not only quiet it but to filter the incoming air as well.

Yeah this is a great to stealth up an already stealthy operation.
I've got one pumps suspended inside of my box by rubberbands and paperclips, and one on the outside for good air flow dangling off the back from another rubberband
