wet spot?
    #2233670 - 01/10/04 07:51 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

ok i soaked 5 lbs of grain for 8 hours yesterday.
then filed 2/3 quart jars.
sterilized & put aside for a day...

i go to check & they look like they have a wet spot...
but then i relized i didn't drain the grain after i soaked, just leaded up the jars...

should i dump & redo?
or should i inoculate?

i have shaken a few times & the look better, but a little greasy...
advice...

Woa, didnt see that no filter post there. Use a shitload of coffee filters, or the nifty ones you can order on various sites (that I wont list). I HIGHLY recommend filters, and they may also be required.

You didn't have to dump those jars. You could have let them drain and then resterilize..

you must use filters, two inoculation holes are nowhere near enough for the air exchange that grain jars need.
use coffee filters as phynatikus mentioned or use tyvek or polyfill.

go to the hobby store and buy polyfil its used for pillow stuffing, make one or two holes about dime size and stuff polyfil in them. You can innoculate through the polyfil, keeps out contams and lets in good air flow.

what about just using just some thick filter paper..
[Munktell 120mm circular filter papers]
with the outer ring to hold em on the jar
leaving out the metal disk insert?
