A deal was reached on the TPP. The poor man's messiah, Obama, just sold out the american worker in favor of the 1%. It's not just Republicans that pander to big money.

what? How drunk are you?
Sadly, the people to blame in this situation are the Republicans in Congress and Obama. Democrats in Congress were the only ones that fell on the right side of this issue. No newspaper will report this as a failure though. Even the ultra liberal NYT is reporting this as a "policy victory" for Obama in his "magnificent shift" to incorporate pacific countries more into his agenda. I guess when a liberal president utilizes Republican economics, it's a "milestone."
FUCK the TPP, fuck Obama, fuck the repubs in congress.

What do you expect. All modern American presidents are gimp puppets of the 1%.
The next president will be much worse because he starts off worse and can only attempt to limit the amount of damage he does.
It can't get any better, debt is bigger, the US is more anemic and the power of the government handed over to the corporations on an even worse scale.
PREPARE.
Cussing out obama is not going to put food in your mouth when the store shelves are empty.

I didn't say it would, I am just hoping I raise a bit of awareness about this travesty. There are a few candidates that wouldn't be a puppet of the 1%. Trump is the best of them. Fuck the TPP, vote Trump 2016. A vote for anyone other than Trump or Bernie is a vote for the 1% and oppression.

It actually does though, because some aren't bought and paid for, like trump and bernie.
Yeah, he is. Everyone knows that. However, his policies are geared towards the common man. How is 0% income tax for the lowest earners not a policy win for the little guy? The 1% certainly wants the poor to pay taxes, but trump doesn't think they should. We need a populist in office.

I'm not sure about Canada or which countries specifically have or haven't signed but it ties 40% of the world economy (the US and most Asian countries) together in a trade deal which will severely hurt the US worker but extraordinarily boost the 1%.

I think it will be alright as well. In fact, we will probably experience an overall boost in our GDP. It will just help the 1% further extend their wealth while further hurting the middle class and low-wage workers. So it's a good deal for very few, but extremely shitty for many.

Ohh I thought, every trade partner had to sign for it to go through. This is sad sad stuff. What kind of prime minister goes through "monumental" work and muffles it so no one knows? I know the answer, a crummy one. Working in secrecy sheesh, deposit your damn kickback and move away already... So we can get people who actually care.

Not sure if you meant to direct that reply at me, but it has been signed here in Canada...Our government just hasn't publicly announced it yet.
The media outlets have started to announce it because it was already announced in other countries.
I hope this is the final straw that will cause Harper to lose the election on Oct 19, but I doubt it. Canadians are seeming more brainwashed each day.
Fucking lame.
edit: At some point today on a campaign stop Stephen Harper will come out branded in clothing that says "Canada" all over it and let us all know how professional and amazing he is that he signed such a deal. Then he will share with us the amazing benefits and how it's going to help all our industries and our economy so greatly.

Not particularly for you, sometimes I just click the button, but thanks for answering it! Another question, how and is it possible to pull out? Or have we signed our souls away and give way to war if we try to eek our ways out of this?

I don't exactly know how pulling out would work, if there is clauses or other penalties or anything like that.
The worst part about this is we still have no information on it, we have been kept in the dark the whole time and even now after it's been signed we still don't know a whole lot about it.
I know that the opposition leaders here in Canada swear they will pull out once elected if they feel it's not a good plan for Canada, but I have a feeling that's a bunch of bull shit anyways and just election tactics.
Fuck em all.

This is a realy constructive discussion we're having.
Politicians take donations from Big Money in return for favors once in office. Trump funds himself and doesn't take donations from Big Money, therefore he won't need to dish out any favors. Trump is losing money by focusing on his campaign rather than business affairs. He isn't gaining anything from running other than public recognition which he already had plenty of. Trump's intentions seem genuine IMO.

I see the usual crowd is bad mouthing trump but they have no hero to support so they just knock everyone. How can even the most retarded liberal support hill-billy? Yet many do. Those with no brain just look for the d or r and vote accordingly, those with some sense are going with burnout and those with a lot of sense are going with trump.
Constantly griping that nothing will help, that the 1% will always win and that nothing will change (asante) is not helping. We have a historic opportunity to support someone not part of the traditional establishment. I speak of course about trump. He is a rino, republican in name only which is a good thing. The tea party may hate him, liberals hate him but the common man likes what he offers.
Bernout, on the other hand is a long time dem supporter, a knee jerk liberal and avowed socialist. While he is better than any of the other dem candidates and better than most gop candidates, he is a poor second choice. He will continue the handouts, special breaks for special people, unions, special countries, etc. He has raised some $28M so he is not totally independent as trump is. He owes his backers no matter what he may say about it. He has not said he will stop the flood of refugees or throw out the illegal immigrants we have already. His big solution is to raise the min wage. Yeah, that will fix everything won't it?
If you think the economy is bad now, check back in a few months.

I find it amazing that the only criticisms of Bernie are either ad hominem or outright falsehood.
Stoney calls him a burn out, yet also somehow knee-jerk. He's had a consistent message for his 30 year political career.
And somehow puts the big money shadow on Bernie instead of Trump! Bernie's average campaign contribution is $25, and Trump is a god damn billionaire.
If there's a legitimate criticism of Sanders' agenda I'd like to hear it voiced so it can be addressed, not veiled in some hollow and baseless attack.

There was a follow up explaining why that article is garbage, let me find the link and I'll edit it in.
Edit: https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2015/09/15/no-bernie-sanders-is-not-going-to-bankrupt-america-to-the-tune-of-18-trillion/
Basically, by creating infrastructure jobs, streamlining healthcare, and raising the minimum wage, Sanders is actually saving Americans money.
The article puts it more eloquently than I can, it's a quick read.

you're thinking as if you're a like-minded individual to Trump and that you and him could like pull the USA out of some "doom" financial and immigration policy, but he's just pandering to you so he can do what every president does; what's necessary to make them successful. you really don't think he'll get raped in the metaphorical asshole if he doesn't do what PEOPLE want him to do, that is his job afterall; and you think it's THE PEOPLE as in YOU who make the decisions...no, first you have to fight about whatever it is you wanna change, but you're still only at the democratic bottom wrung of effecting the decisions and outcomes; no, more importantly it's corporate interests, that will fuck him over if he doesn't cooperate, and rail-road his promises, and either make him resign or make him fold on the issues that effect the bottom line of major money makers of your country. the best he CAN do is soften the blow, and make some kind of shitty reform (or leave it for THE NEXT president to clean up), and that's it. you think the United States Congress is going to let him fuck up the entire country's Geopolitical and International Relations and market; and do you think that Trump actually cares about you? after ALL THAT SHIT, you think he cares about YOU? you're a number to him. you are the lowest common denominator of his calculations; he only wants to try to persuade the Senate to give America some life support because he wants the prestige and when all is said and done YOU will simply have helped to do what he will to make ends meet ONLY for himself. if he holds himself to his word, there'll only be more problems, and then what will he do? he'll either make things harder for himself and everyone else, or he'll meet only meager expectations and try and get the most out of it, like any sane rational human being, disregarding any mistakes that might be made on his part.
it's a JOB.
he isn't you or America's knight in shining armor.
he can be an effective president only by MEAGER STANDARDS.
i'll eat a pubic-hair peanut butter sandwich if Trump stays liked in the polls and meets his goals and makes America better to the standard you expect.

He also would choke out business IMO though. There's no way I'd ever vote for someone who wants 90% of my income for taxes. Also his ideas on entitlements are a lot different than mine. IMO his policies would encourage an environment of laziness and an "I deserve it, just cause" attitude.

Trump is the only person talking about global trade, this isn't a subject matter that the other politicians are allowed to even discuss.
When Trump suggests a 35% tariff on foreign products entering the US, that could cost global corporations TRILLIONS of dollars, that takes balls and he must be respected.
That fact that Trump is rich doesn't discredit his economic agenda, Obama was nothing more than a "house negro" which made his rhetoric completely worthless.

Its amazing how the sheep think everyone in a group thinks and acts the same when its not the group they are in. For example, they think all rich people have the same objectives, support the same causes, and will do the same things when in power. If someone said all negroes stole and lived off welfare, they would be banned for racism. But the sheep tell us anyone with money only cares about ripping off the public and helping other rich folks. By that logic burnout will only help socialists and not help anyone else.
Bernout's relative sanity on a number of issues make him head and shoulders above the usual dem sellouts and the gop sellouts. When more details of his nutjob plans become better known he will see a falloff in support.
Fiorina got lots of media attention because of her amazing quality of being a female, which is in vogue these days. That seems to be her main qualification, that and the fact she failed at business which in some whacky reverse logic makes her better than trump. Bitchlary's main qualification is the same, plus the fact she is married to a former pres. Her blatant selling out and taking money from everyone and anyone with a checkbook is conveniently overlooked by the media and most moonbats. Yet she may steamroller everyone else and still win. <shudder>
Jeb has loads of money and is not out yet, carson is a right wing nutjob but is rising in the polls. The rest are also rans and have not yet realized they lost.
q >Obama was nothing more than a "house negro" which made his rhetoric completely worthless.

Trump is nothing more than an idol. it's hilarious. no one is bagging on him because he's rich or because his policies are horrendous, as the US has seen worse.
but how you can praise him when he hasn't even done anything yet, and adulate him, is beyond me. it's not even a blank slate either, and don't pretend like it is...he's got a track record.

So does Bernie. And he has a 30 year track record to back that up, in lieu of a reality tv show and revolving door of bankruptcy and plastic blonde women.
He also would choke out business IMO though. There's no way I'd ever vote for someone who wants 90% of my income for taxes. Also his ideas on entitlements are a lot different than mine. IMO his policies would encourage an environment of laziness and an "I deserve it, just cause" attitude.
Bernie doesn't want anyone taxed 90%.

Nope, tariffs and deporting the illegal leeches is what the US needs, it would even help your country.
No US political is even allowed to bring up those topics, Trump is the exception..

no, not just for the fuck of it; for the trump card. get it?
they can pull out if they want (re-organize - re-brand) slow enough to get out of dodge but fast enough to create a ripple effect that will have to be dealt with, and if the vacuum isn't filled in time, CRASH.
and that is if they don't like Trump's 'ideas'...i'm sure they can make him do the puppet dance.

read what i said again, Qman. i didn't say his policies were horrendous, i said "no one is bagging on him (shitting on him ect ect) because his policies are horrendous" as in, "that's not why people are bagging on him".
i gotta go to sleep. PS tariff's are historically speaking a bad idea. but i am not a political scientist nor economist. my knowledge goes about yay high_

Yeah, global corporations are going to leave the largest economy in the world just for the fuck of it.
Even so, fuck those traitors! Call for an international warrant due to high treason or something, and let's make it a global policy! Let's give those fuckers nowhere to run, and see what a beautiful world it'll be.

Trump's plan wouldn't make the corporations leave, it would just lessen their profitability, so be it.

An attitude of laziness is indeed a bad thing? Or do you support laziness? And why would theyou pull out of America with a 15% business tax? You literally make no sense. Educate yourself and return.

A lazy attitude is a very bad thing. I remain unconvinced that Sanders' policies will make people lazier or less lazier.
Or do you believe that the majority of poor people are poor because they are lazy?

You should care because, God forbid morality, that shittiness is taking money out of your pocket and dimming your nation's prosperity.
There is something you can do about it: Support policies which reduce the burdens of the working class by putting them (back) on the rich.

What sort of policies has any candidate besides trump proposed that will do that? The bernout IMO wants to just steal from the rich and flat out give it to the poor in the form of government issued entitlements. Policies that would actually help (like a 0% income tax on the poor) are rejected by the left, yet they claim to be "for the poor."
I realize that the poor are a net drain on the country, but giving them free social programs paid for by the rich and middle class isn't the answer. Setting the poor up to empower themselves without social programs is the answer IMO.

The unskilled/uneducated workers had very strong employment opportunities in the past, that isn't the case today.
It would be nice to walk into Cleveland, Baltimore, or a 100 different cities across the US and say to the unemployed people, "go walk down the street and look at the "help wanted" sign outside of XYZ corporation" and you can start work tomorrow!! There was a time in America when that was the case.

The rich now pay for far less than they have in the past.
And Bernie's proposals aren't going to cost anything substantially more than what we already spend, in some cases we'll save money. Would you rather fork out $5000 a year for a private sector service or $3000 for a public sector service?
People are freaking out because he wants to erase profits in places like healthcare and prisons. Why should we be forking over extra money so a few rich guys can profit off of Americans' suffering?

increase taxes on everyone. rich people actually pay more than their fair share. when the government takes millions of your dollars you can start to complain about taxes. I wonder how youd feel about welfare and free college then huh? i mean put yourself in someone elses shoes. everyone always thinks they pay too high of taxes well heres a news flash unless ur in like the top 2% tax bracke or the even shittier upper middle class or something you prob get more from the government than you pay for.

The left is against kicking out the illegals even though that will raise wages and provide jobs for americans. Why are they against it? Because the dems and the media tell them to be against it, illegals vote too you know. The only answer the left has including bernout is to raise the min which will of course result in fewer jobs and more industries going overseas. At this rate we will be left with only jobs like walmart greeter and burger flipper.
And yet when things get worse they will try to blame bush, Reagan, anyone but fumbling obumble. Trump is our only hope.

Its sad, yes thats what it will do. Small businesses over time will suffer, creating less good jobs for the small towns and average folk everywhere. Creating more dependency on others, giving in to a bigger monopoly for the big corporations to wave their big dicks around and slap them where they like. Cause they got the money. Ohh I have to day dream to get bye. I suppose thats no different than anytime though.

FUCK the TPP, fuck Obama, fuck the repubs in congress.
sup OP? can you give someone like me information on why the TPP is bad? i hate sifting through the internet and finding threads like this that don't really explain the situation very well in any detail.
i am genuinely curious as to why people are up in arms about this deal? i have heard a lot, but at the same time not much at all.

I will hurt the auto industry no doubt. It'll put Ontario in a very rough position. I did say that.
But I have read up more about the deal and the benefits outweighs the consequences. There's more to Canada than the Ontario auto industry.

It tears down tariffs that will in turn result in countless American jobs being shipped to countries with cheaper labor. Free trade hurts the american worker but is great for the 1%.

No actually they are called Ford and GM. They moved to Canada due to higher competence and lower taxes.

Alright, so, car part are manufactured in Canada. With the TPP, foreign countries with lower salaries will now be able to produce it and ship the parts here. Essentially that's the gist of it. But there are more things than that.
We have a roughly 6% tariff on car imports which will be phased out. Therefore foreign car will come in 6% cheaper. In order to avoid tariffs, 45% of a the car parts used to build it must come from a TPP country. In the case of Japan and Vietnam, that should not be a problem at all. Therefore tariffs are almost certainly eliminated. Under NAFTA its 60% in order to be duty free. So it makes a difference. WTF with the percentage of car part in a car you ask? It was to encourage builders to buy 60% from north america instead of going to China. Sure it kept prices higher, but at least we knew the quality was safe and that it was built at home. Now "home" means any TPP countries. Which means Canada and the US will not compete on car part.
Speaking of NAFTA. Since the TPP is the newst agreement. all trade mentioned in the TPP will overrule NAFTA (technically seaking of course. Historically, newer deals replace the old) and everything that isnt touched by TPP will remain protected under NAFTA. therefore Mexico... But NAFTA casts a wider net than the TPP for now.
This treaty truly is world changing when it comes to the countries included. South Korea wants to join... If accepted, fuck it, we stop building cars altogether...
There is exemptions on the TPP for the "buy local" items. So the deal doesn't just go and wipe out everything in its way. Its an accepted form of protectionism under the deal.
Also, state controlled businesses (The CBC) is also protected. But that clause was put in there in case china wanted to come in. Everything is state controlled for them so it would have fucked up everything.
New important and useful rule under TPP. No government can interefere with the data flow of the Internet in any way. So if passed, that will take away the US government's power to control the internet or whatever.
Hence why every country must bring this deal to parliament or the house and each individually approve of it otherwise it wont pass.
Also, Every country has specifics unique to them included in the deal so its complicated as fuck

Actually there are only 7 GM factories in Canada, compared to the 47 factories in the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_General_Motors_factories
And there are only 3 Ford factories in Canada compared to the 27 in the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ford_factories
The rule of thumb comparing canada and the US is 10.
You have roughly 10 times more of everything numbers wise.
7 GM factories in canda should mean that you guys have 70... You have 27, therefore we have way more than the rule of thumb
Ford 3 out 30 total.... Perfect adherence to the rule.

Yeah, he is. Everyone knows that. However, his policies are geared towards the common man. How is 0% income tax for the lowest earners not a policy win for the little guy? The 1% certainly wants the poor to pay taxes, but trump doesn't think they should. We need a populist in office.
You mean a win for loser bums.

If there's a legitimate criticism of Sanders' agenda I'd like to hear it voiced so it can be addressed, not veiled in some hollow and baseless attack.

But if you're born rich and stay rich then your cool right? Does it still count if you didn't manage to become richer?
Or what if you were born into like 50 million but by the time you were old you didn't make any money and you only had like 25 million left.
Does that mean you suck?
Or like what if you were a crack-baby born in a crack house to a homeless mother and never knew your father and all you could manage to do was get into like a $15/hr job by the time you were 50; meanwhile all your family in friends were either homeless, dead, in jail, or criminals? Does than mean you suck still?

You must be kidding us, US corporations having been moving manufacturing out of the US for the past 25 years and not much resistence.
Hell, both Ford and GM are now planning to move major facilities to Mexico, US workers just bend over and take it up the ass.
