Value excluded, LMA to the Spurs, Thunder firing Brooks and Bulls firing Thibs are the biggest moves I think. Thibs was a tyrant and Brooks never made the most of some of the best talent in the entire league.
I'm not completely sold on Whiteside for the Heat. Despite what he did last season, he's a black hole on offense with horrid passing and off ball positioning very well and despite his defensive prowess the Heat's defensive +/- doesn't change much when he's on or off court. As the season goes on maybe he'll gel better with the team since he's missed camp and hasn't played much with the starting unit but honestly McRoberts might be better starting since the offense runs so much more smoothly with him out there. But you don't want to limit Whiteside's development with so much upside so I understand why he's starting, plus McRobert's unselfish play may give the bench a push. But HW's gotta learn to pass better or he'll kill the Heat on offense.
I'm skeptical of KD's foot injury properly healing, and I have this funny feeling he probably won't ever play another full season again. At least now they got rid of Brooks so maybe they'll utilize the team's talent the way it should've these years under Brooks. Once the team gels and works out its Xs and Os, rotations, etc. if they're healthy I expect 55+ wins and a playoffs letdown sundae finished with a KD to the Wizards cherry on top.
Dangelo Russel over on the Lakers has been balling and could win ROY, but they're a mess as a team with no future until Kobe McChucker Bryant retires so they have money to rebuild around Russell and possibly lure in a big free agent or draft well. The team's failing so badly right now I honestly love it. You know it's a bullshit team when they're just trying to keep TV ratings high for more money by keeping players like Swaggy P around.
Clippers look good on paper but I don't think that team is going to really go places with Doc Rivers at the GM and coach position. He's incompetent and still riding on the success Paul Pierce and KG won him in Boston because he's a wretched coach that's been really lucky with his teams. CP3 has been an amazing player over his career but because he's so small he wears down over the season and into the playoffs for perennial early exits. It's visible that Paul gets tired and holds onto the ball until the first chance he can get rid of it and teams take advantage. They need to give Griffin primary superstar responsibilities. If they can keep CP3 rested and healthy into the later part of the season I see no reason besides Coach and GM Rivers that they can't make it to the Finals.
The Cavs are poised to easily run the Leastern Conference. The season is really a matter of staying healthy, rested, and tinkering with rotations and they'll easily be playing in the Finals against whoever gets dragged through the Western Conference minefield.
The Hawks are going to regress this season, having really only moved to sign Splitter though at least it gives them some good size they really need inside. Still a soft regular season team that fizzles out late in the season.
Grizzlies will be in the mix but not significant really. Over these years they've always had offensive struggles and they've done nothing to address it. Tough team that just can't get over the hump on that middle-of-the-pack treadmill no team wants to be on.
The Rockets will be right there in the mix with the Spurs at the top. I think Harden improves his game even more this year. The man is a beast, and I feel that Howard will finally play a full, healthy season based on nothing but a guess. They're legit even though they caught lucky breaks last year for playoff seeding, I think they improve this season.
The Spurs are the favorites until proven otherwise. Limiting the strain on their aged core through the season will be their biggest problem aside from potential injuries. Tony Parker has lost a step and I don't think he and Manu can be counted on for the last 1/3 of the season to be in tip-top shape. I have serious questions about this season's Spurs defense. West is old and LMA isn't a good defender. They got rid of Splitter and he was a seriously underrated piece of the Spurs puzzle these past few years especially clogging up the paint. They're a little thin at PG with Parker and Mills... they cut Jimmer Ferdette which I thought could be their off the bench spark plug shooter if Mills isn't doing the work but I guess he had a shitty attitude and didn't fit. 2015-2016 is the Spurs' No Excuses season.
I think the Warriors will be cruising this season a bit more. Steph Curry does tend to be injury prone and they'll probably have a champ hangover. I could see them turning it on toward the playoffs.
The Pelicans and The Brow will be an interesting thing to watch. He can only carry them so far and if he eeks out 55+ wins carrying the rest of the scrubs on their team he's going to easily win MVP. Alvin Gentry should be on the hot seat after this season barring an unexpected success. Their defense is consistently terribad with Davis not even being utilized as well as he could be.
The Wizards have hit their peak and are on a mid-pack playoffs treadmill with a good backcourt and not much else. I think they should blow it up and rebuild if they can't lure Durant away from OKC in 2016.
I don't trust the Bulls and Derrick "Glass" Rose. Thibs was known to run his players into the ground and now Hoiberg wants to play a more uptempo pace, so more running into the ground. They stole Portis in the draft so they're still very talented and had a productive offseason. Noah is such an offensive black hole I've read he's coming off the bench now?! But the Bulls do have the talent to compete in the Least. The Cavs buzz saw will probably mow through them in the playoffs though. I think it's sad that Pau Gasol, a champion and future HOF, will probably get pushed aside again like he did on the Lakers with the run n gun offense they're using this season; Gasol deserves better always been a fan of his.
Bucks are a wildcard for me. JKidd had them playing excellent defense last season and Parker seems like he'll continue his development to star status. Greg Monroe was a nice pickup but they lost Ilyasova and Pachulia. Loaded roster cursed with potential let's see how the rebuild is going this year but I expect progress.
Hornets stole Lin for $2 million/yr, he's already dominating this preseason, expecting a Linsanity Part II! And his Goku hair edgy. Training camp:

Nice write up. I agree and disagree with many points
I think the bulls look great! Their offense has definitely picked up pace and has a lot of dribble hand-offs on the wing and down screens to open up shooters. And they have some of those, I expect the Thricola to have a huge season. Doug has looked good too. Snell can shoot. So can Brooks. "Glass" Rose is a bonus when he is around. He'll probably get in 50-60 games.
I don't get how you can call Noah a black hole on offense. He is a pass first kind of guy so he is disrespected by defenders from time to time. But still, he finds people. I'd love to play with a guy like that. I actually think he'll average close to a double double and 4-5 assists coming off the bench this season.
So yeah, I'm optimistic about the Bulls...

And Linsanity?
The dude was outplayed by Ronnie Price last year.
I don't believe it until I see it. You can't buy in to the pre season too much. The Hornets won it all for christ sakes. I mean, they are better, but not that much better.

I just like the Linsanity hype, mostly for the name if nothing else; he's mediocre as a player. His hair and the Dragonball Z pics are the only real reason I posted Lin at all But good for him if he doesn't regress to the mean. Linsanity was fun to watch back in his NY days. But at $2m/yr he's a steal regardless.

I don't follow basketball much (at all), but if I were to, it'd be the Bucks...
Can anybody tell me anything about them? Pretty much asking if they're expected to be good or shitty or whatever..
I wouldn't mind having something to watch at night, but I haven't followed in years, so I don't really know the goings-on

I also see the Charlotte Hornets are back to being a team again.. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I followed basketball fairly heavily in my youth up until like 1999 or so, and then pretty much lost interest..
Years later I began hearing all these new team names and cities and that kind of blew my mind.. New Orleans having a team, OKC, Seattle losing the Sonics...
I'd like to read a timeline of teams changing cities and names and expansions and so forth, but don't know what to search..
Can anybody perhaps point me to a page detailing that info? Or if you happen to know all the changes, if you had the time to share with me what you know/remember..? Thanks.. There just seems to be a lot of new shit going on since I was in school and would like to know what went down and when and why..
Edit... I found this.. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_relocated_National_Basketball_Association_teams It touches on a little but of what I'm after. But any other reading on the subject would be welcomed.

Bucks are up and coming.
They have some great young players. Probably gonna be a high seeded playoff team (7,8).
Giannis (something really long and greek) is the man. he’s like 21 and a freak of nature. He’ll be a superstar soon enough.
And Charlotte still sucks bro nothing has changed in like 10 years.....

So Dangelo Russel fell off and looks like a complete bust. Karl Anthony Towns though, homie might already have ROY locked up in the first week. The guy's incredible, especially since he's a rookie that a lot of people thought was unpolished and had a lot of holes in his game coming into the league, but it's looking more like Calipari may have just used him badly. Re-signing Kevin Garnet to WAY too much money to bring the youngin up and show him how to be great may be an underrated offseason move. I don't know what is up with the Pelicans and AD. Gentry may actually get fired before Byron Scott! The Spurs have looked uncomfortable like they haven't ironed out all the kinks yet. Lamarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard are on beast mode. Parker is looking like shit and it's the first week, oooh man this going to be bad. He's getting eaten ALIVE by other teams' starting guards and getting lost on the pick and roll on defense, losing his man and leaving Duncan and Aldridge to clean up the mess. Come the playoffs against Westbrook, Paul, etc. he's going to kill them. Patty Mills and Manu Ginobili have been the unsung heroes so far. Durant is playing beta ball with the stat padder Westbrook looking like an MVP candidate early on. Steph Curry is using cheats. Will his ankles hold up? The Rockets, WHOA. WTF.

Been out of watchin basketball for like 1.5 years. Good to hear SAS got aldrich, though splitter was doing some serious work with those big to big passes and defense. Not who I would have expected them to pick up, thought they'd stick with splitter and look for a star 2-guard. Maybe splitter was just too expensive for what he does.
Sorry to hear Parker is still playing badly. He was such a joy to watch in the last two finals (most of the time.) Very smart guy to get away with the work he did in the paint. I hope mills will make tea out of his brain and absorb the knowledge to become a better paint player.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

I think SA got a lot better this yearsSplitter really wasn’t that great, and you only have 1-2 more years with that core. but i wouldn’t be worried with Kawaii and Aldridge. the
The Spurs are almost unfair. You guys are like destined to win 50 games a year. Hell of an organization from top to bottom with unbelievable eye for rising talent. Once Becky Hammond gets a head coaching job, you guys are only gonna be more well known for that. At first i thought she was a feel good story/gimmick but she seems like a hell of a coach.
My Jazz have finally come around. They are 4-4 but man they are looking good. Went blow for blow with the king the other night, and lost to Miami by 1 point. Im excited to see how they do against the traditional western powers. I honestly think we could beat Dallas, Clippers, and Thunder right now.
Hayward is gonna have an all-star year, Alec Burkes is the best at slashing and finishing at the rim in the league, and Gobert is fast becoming a top tier Center. Gonna be exciting if we can get consistent play at PG.

By all rights GSW should be my team, but I'm an obstinate fuck. Starting watching BB with the first SAS/MIA finals and loved them ever since.
It'll be interesting to see how the team reincarnates. Is Hammond the chosen one to replace pop, and is Kawaii starting to perform like a star carry on a more consistent basis?
Never seen a Utah game in my life.

I take it your pretty new to basketball? Spurs have kicked ass since like 2000. Hammond is the first female assistant coach, but she knows her shit and will be a HC soon enough.
Pop aint going anywhere. He’s the GOAT.
Warriors had no fans till like 2 years ago, and were one of the worst teams in basketball for like ever. Now they are looking like they could go on back to back title runs. Funny how those things work out.
