Boletus Edulis?
    #22333275 - 10/04/15 03:33 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

This seems rather like edulis, but there's this purple staining directly under the cap and at the circumference of the cut stem, which doesn't seem to match descriptions.

Northern Switzerland, in an alpine meadow. Cap is brown - lighter at the edges - 10 cm diameter; gills are creamy to yellowy; stem is white with light brown tracery over; flesh is white, staining purple just underneath the skin when cut - the stain faded after some hours. It didn't drop any spores after some hours.

The staining rules out B. edulis. It certainly looks close to it but I'm not sure what it is.

from what I have read, some boletus Edulis can stain a slight rose color/ purplish hue near the cap...
Boletus cf. edulis

But according to MushroomExpert, he didnt say anything about their presence in Europe. hmmm
