Fridge for culture storage? (UK)
    #22332789 - 10/04/15 01:41 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

It's official, the misses has put her foot down and says I can't store plates or slants next to the Sunday roast anymore.  Fair enough.

I want to buy a small fridge for cultures.  Any suggestions?  I'm just a hobby grower, so I'm looking for as small and cheap as is practical.  Looking around the shops many fridges don't even seem to specify the temperature range of the device :undecided:

Get on your local classifieds, people give them away! I have a £10 larder fridge that has been storing my cultures for 5 years. Most run around 4C.

I can see a lot of cheap "normal" sized fridges, but I'm not sure I have the space.

Anyone ever tried a counter top fridge for cultures?  Something like this 47 liter one?  It looks a nice size at around 45cm, but no clue how cold it gets?  I know some of the small table top beer/wine "coolers" only get down to 10 degrees C.

you run the risk of freezing with those tiny fridges.  which may be fine for some cultures.  but here in the states there are very cheap chest freezers new, or use refrigerators.  and you can use an STC-1000 to regulate temp.

Hmm, thanks.  Perhaps I need to wait until I have a bit more space available...

I could throw out some of the misses' shoes, that would free up quite a bit.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one here who gets disapproving looks at each new piece of mushroom related gear I bring into the house...  :regularshroom:
