Trich?
    #22332569 - 10/04/15 12:50 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Entire tray is colonized with AA+, no casing.

Was looking at knots today and found this...

Trick? Yay or nay?

Most people would say it is dirty spawn but it can be many other things. Like improper pasteurization or the sub is to nutritious.

Could have been dirty spawn. I will say that that tote did have some wetter substrate, so I wouldn't be surprised. I tried cutting out the area, found green all inside. It's living outside now. Good call

Read the whole first page. Brilliant stuff. Makes you realize you really should be doing a shake and recover before spawning. It'll tell you how clean or dirty the spawn is normally.

oh wow, i missed this

yeah, same with a. niger, rhizopus or penicillium strains, etc. (in fact, most black or green moulds)

i always thought they were constantly sporulating, guess not

i've never seen which trich, but then again i've only seen it once in person, otherwise it was from pics

pretty neat ^^

I wouldn't bother cutting it. Trich is parasitic. It's a lot more than that green spot. That's just the sporulation. Trich is actually white and it's definitely intertwined in your mycelium now.

Actually only the aerial mycelium is white. The vegetative mycelium that grows through the substrate is sort of greyish and is so thin it's to hard to see even on agar.

The aerial myc will also have that sandy/granular look too, but it just hasn't turned green yet. Generally trich is MUCH more than the visible green spot.

TBH I've seen lots of people mistake trich for cobweb

Here's also an example to show how similar trichs myc can actually be to cube myc, and how stress (shaking a jar/cutting the culture) will help sporulte/show trich. This is also a reason why it doesn't show up until after you've spawned if you didn't do a shake and recover before spawning.

Just thought you'd find this interesting .
