For $1.4k on a crown vic he bought on craigslist. He saw the one i drive and wanted one too so he took all his savings and bought one with 180k miles on it.
The guy was some mexican on the southside of chicago, and when he got there the car had almost no gas in it, so instead of doing an actual test drive he only drove around the block.
After he bought it, he took it yo yhr gas station, filled it up, and tried driving it only to discover that it doesnt shift out of first gear.
Stupid as fuck, i dont know why he would buy a car with 180k miles on it off craigslist in a shitty neighborhood from a sketchy mexican. Hes from north dakota though so hes pretty trusting.
No info about the guy besides his phone number and supposedly where he works(he told my buddy that he was a mechanic at a place down the road, though im not sure i believe it)
Xan you guys think of any solutions? I sure as hell cant, other than rebuilding the trans

I dont think there is a solution he bought he POS car off craigslist from some idiot in a bad neigborhood without even driving it, like yous said.
That's just The best he could do is try to fix the car if he knows anything about cars. Or re sell it and try to get some money back.
But seriously

Isn't his name and address on the title? I'm assuming he didn't check the guys ID to make sure he was really the owner? Did he get a title? Didn't they meet at his house to buy it?
He's probably stuck with it unless he takes him to small claims court

He probably just bought a stolen car. That or it such a piece of shit it can't be titled and the guy just printed up a fake one. If he doesn't flat out find out it was stolen (call the police with the VIN or something to see if it was reported) then I'd be surprised to find out he could even get it titled.
Buying high mileage cars always scares me, but the one I've had the most problem with was a very low mileage car for it's age. None of them are "clean", they all come with their issues. We just bought a Mazda with nearly 200k miles on it for pretty damn cheap and I fixed it's issues ~knock on wood~ it seems to be running great.
We weren't even really in the market for a new car, but my wife had a conversation with one of the tellers at our bank and she had just gotten a new car and had no need for this one anymore and was willing to let it go pretty cheap.
As for what he should do with the car, if it's not stolen, he can probably get his money back by parting it out. Or at least a good portion of it. The most he's likely to get as a whole car is a couple hundred bucks.

I think so, its the p71 police package so i assume so.
I just looked at pics of it, it has the police rims, but no headlight. It might not even be the interceptor package

It sounds like he'll have to sell it for parts, scrap it, or enter it in a demolition derby if he wants to get any money back.

The guy had like 6 keys to it for whatever reason, so that was weird.
Though it was in a lot with other cars in the open so who knows.
If it was stolen thatd be the icing on the cake. Its probably more sketchy than just being a shit car

I wouldn't buy a car where the previous owner didn't give a shit about it. Cop cars are rode hard and put away wet.

Save that for evidence, I think its law that if you know something is wrong with a car that you have to tell the buyer before they buy it. Take the title to the tag office/police and see if they can find out where the previous owner is. Explain to them that the guy lied to you and you need to take him to court or ask for your money back.

So it's either a fire department vehicle or a taxi? I've never seen a red cop car.
I can read the description on that ad and know it's a piece of shit. anyone who goes that far to make it sound like a perfect car is obviously hiding some shit.
Probably not a good idea to buy a car with almost 200k miles on it when the owner won't tell you what issues it has (because it's gonna have some).

you can save a lot of money by fixing it yourself, its one of those things where its mostly dirty work in a sorta hard to get to spot, so they charge a lot just because of that.
The good news is crown vic's are really popular with police, which means there's a shitload of parts out there, which means you can prolly just pull a old tranny off one at the junk yard for scrap prices. call up your local car junkers and surrounding area ones and ask them if they have any crown vic's.
if that falls through, look on ebay
my guess is you can get the parts for a couple hundred, then gaskets if you can't reuse the old ones another $50-$100, then tranny fluid
mostly its labor
edit: nvm no name on title just go to the police
