PNW ID GYMS junious/spectabilis?

So I asked my dad if you see any mushrooms like the ones I've shown you on your walk today let me know. He sends me this pic...
He says are these the shrooms you're looking for? Excited I tell him Hell yah man that's rad bring em home. From his pic looked just like G junious to me.
I love my dad!
I got them and photographed them a lil better for id, they don't seem to blue at all like the gyms I've found before. I have one in the fridge now for the night to see if blues.
These were growing from the log in they first picture, most likely a maple log from the trees around.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these are gyms of some kind. I believe I've only found G.luteofolius before, based in all the ones I've found have been purplish when small then turn orange, and bruise blue easily, they also where in chips.
I wonder if these are still active if they don't blue? I'm getting my psilocybin test kit in the mail this week I'll test them when it arrives. Funny I ordered the tests just for situations just like this

They don't look like actives to me, could be wrong but that rusty spores dropping off them should give it away plus the fact they don't bruise blue. Wait for a TI before doing anything please don't take them beforehand.

they are definitely Gymnopilus, but probably Gymnopilus ventricosus, which is not active

Agreed, but OP should check for activity. If they're active and/or show green-bluish bruising, compare to Gymnopilus junonius (=Gymnopilus spectabilis) and Gymnopilus luteus.

I don't believe luteus grown in the PNW. I have heard reports (Myco-web) that spectabilis does occur there, but most sources say no

There's too much uncertainty surrounding the genus Gymnopilus. I'm going to ask collectors to look for nuances between these three species.

Do they smell intensely bitter? Those are fat, ground clustering gymnopilus. Gyms bruise maroons , blacks and browns most often. Aborted pins bruising blue are good indicator of activity. Very mellow though especially with giant mature fruits.

I believe that there is only one large Gymnopilus species on the west coast, and that it is Gymnopilus ventricosus. The type location is Stanford University, and it occurs from San Diego at least north through Washington, and probably in British Colombia also.
There are very few active Gymnopilus species on the west coast, just G. thiersii (usually reported as G. luteofolius) and perhaps that really odd one that looks like a Hebeloma, Gymnopilus punctifolius. I have not seen any bluing junonius-like collections from the west, if anyone knows of any please link me to them.
While we are on the subject of bluing Cortinariaceae, there is one undescribed bluing Galerina on the west coast. It is extremely rare, I know of only two collections and both have been lost. Grows in wood chips, so keep your eye out for it.

So left work work forgot to check the one in the fridge this morning, I'll check when I get home for bruising.
Cut the stems up last night to check for bugs noticed some brownish discoloration. Maybe hints of green but could have just been lighting.
They smell quite strong not particularly bitter, but stinky for sure.
These were found in Silverdale WA for more info.
When my psilocybin tests arrive I'll try one on these for the Hell of it.
I'll definitely keep my eye out for a bluing gally too. I always pick one from a cluster of any LBM I see stick it in my pocket while hunting, check on it now and then. Never know when one will turn blue.
And shroomanizer, thanks. I do have a cool family, my dad is stoked I quit college and became a glass blower. Now I get paid to be a pot head on my own schedule! He couldn't be prouder!
