Is this contamination?
    #22331252 - 10/04/15 02:48 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hello,
I am growing my first Supa Gro kit and I am wondering whether this is
contamination or part of the mycelium colonizing the surface. Thanks.

The mycelium is just trying to colonize the surface. I don't see any contams, give it some time, it should pin up soon. :super:

Thanks for the answer. I thought it could be mold or something for the green/blue tone of some parts. However it looks whiter in the pictures

Yeah I kinda see what you mean. Even if it is mold, it will still be able to produce some fruits, they'll just be smaller and less prolific. That is what happens when you buy a grow kit, the spawn used is almost always dirty due to improper sterile techniques. That's why it's HIGHLY recommended to grow from scratch. You get to be in control of every stage of the process.

Alright I will wait some days and I might post new images. Well I'm totally new at mushroom growing, so it's at least a start. Thanks for the help :P

Took those right now. Is it normal to look like this?

It's contaminated. The last pic shows the black spot in detail. It's definitely not part of the top layer and not any kind of bruising. Also, I see the trich starting to take over, those green spots will only get larger. Toss it out, no need to risk spreading nasty spores all over your house.

Isn't there any way to remove the contamination?

It's a losing battle my friend, that tub will not pin, the mycelium has been completely taken over by cobweb mold/trich. Try to do it yourself from scratch next time, you'll have much better results, trust me.

There's still alot of mycelium under the surface. I removed the upper contaminated layer and I'm gonna try to start over, this time without water.
Those kits are supposed to be already humidified, so maybe over doing it is what caused the mold to appear. I better try, at least try.
In the worst case I would have to eat the mycelium xD

Or work on growing more? Holy shit. I hope you have a strong immunity. I wouldn't ever eat any substrate/mycelium that's gotten contaminated with unknown molds. Maybe if I knew what it was.. but even then I'm too spoiled for that. I don't even trust fruits that touched the contamination. I leave the mushy parts of the stem, and only go for where it's crisp and yummy.
