Contamination or small space in substrate?

Newb to growing. Just paranoid and fearing for my cousin's first cakes. Is this the beginning of a contamination or is it just paranoia? Another thought is that it is a small space in the substrate created by the syringe needle upon inoculation. Thanks. [url=https://files.shroomery.org/filesTex

i think it is the substrate
i wouldn't worry about it, unless it starts growing

Ok, now it's about 2 to 3 weeks into incubation. One of the cakes is fully colonized and it's currently waiting upon consolidation. But, the appearance of the other cake that was concerning previously is still worrisome. The rest of the cake has colonized fine, but an area near the top of the jar is grey ish and colonizing very slowly. As if there's a contamination that the mycelium is trying to cover. Is it just paranoia?
EDIT: The grey tinted area has been there for over a week and apparently has not spread.

Can't tell if its black mold, spore clumps, or just vermiculite. Gotta hate being one of those "are my cakes ok" people, but this is the first grow. Please help!

its verm they look good. Let it keep going. Once 100%, let sit for a few more days. They might not all finish at the same time and you can start birthing. Its not really stalled unless it doesnt move for a week.

It's because you used the wrong size jar Flip the jar over on its top and give it a light tap. The mycelium can't squeez past the glass and the substrate at the bottome.

They're both fully colonized and have been for about half a week. One of them has one cute little pin inside. Since they're both fully colonized, they shouldn't have to be flipped right? And how is it the wrong size jar? I used 8oz regular mouth canning jars (which I read can be used instead of wide mouth). I'm hoping all is well.

If one is pinning already birth it.
You don't want the tall half pint jars you want the short wide mouth jars. They colonize faster and you don't get problems like what you experiencing.
