I'm super excited about this movie. I normally never go to the theatre but I'm definitely going for this.

I'm not really into horror anymore, short of Zombies. Been so long since I've seen one I actually enjoyed. Generally the entire point of the movie is create a feeling of suspense and fear and they're all just so damn cliche and typical it's hard to feel that anymore. You can almost always tell exactly what is about to happen, because you've seen it a hundred times before.
I mean most movies these days are cliche'd anyways.
I mostly only watch sci-fi or action/adventure movies these days because the cliche doesn't really matter. You're just watching it for the action on the screen, it's just eye candy.

personally it's all eye candy...it's film. it's supposed to be eyes first, then story and sound.
but i guess you got a point. i mean, horror is hard to pull off and actually be scary...there are more shitty lookin' horror movies that manage to scare, mostly because it's uneasy to watch something gritty and that maybe has a little exploitation of gore or fucked up shit.
fuck i even think Gremlins is kinda scary, so people just have different radar's, if you will, for that sorta thing.

Yeah but I don't find the stuff horror movies are made of to really be much eye candy. It's mostly just gore or "scary looking shit" like Silent Hill type of stuff IMO. The setting sometimes can be pretty good but that's about the extent of it for me. I like watching well choreographed fight sequences and huge explosions. I also like watching time travel stuff and trying to wrap my head around how the events in the movie are possible and the implications behind them.

I've never seen Donnie Darko. Never even heard of Drunken Master. Die Hard yes, but I'm not too fond of the first two. They're okay, but I vastly prefer the third. I'm not too sure how I feel about 4 and 5. Kinda just don't live up to 3, maybe even 1. 2 is my least liked out of all of them.

Ive never been a fan of these movies unless I'm super high and laughing up a storm. Unfortunately I dont get like that often anymore.
My current girl loves scary flix but everytime she brings one home it's close to the worst movie I've ever seen. Even the good ones are shitty really. Only one I liked recently was As Above So Below or something like that.

well, there ya go.
i'd recommend them any day. PS: Die Hard 1-3 are classic...the other ones...they are near shit.

not really, they can both be watched independent of each other. the second one's got more REAL humor (the family, especially the mom, is hilarious) and the fighting is much more in your face.
the stories are unconnected.

i haven't seen it yet, but it looks like it's got some real positives about it. it's supposed to be really scary and del Toro considers it like one of his most personal films or something? that sounds interesting. Pan's Labyrinth is great but maybe a bit overhyped i guess; and Devil's Backbone sounds more or less like a sleeper hit.

I'm interested in the movie but kind of wary on it. I honestly love Guillermo del Toro movies so of course I will watch it eventually.
Devil's Backbone was my fav creepy one from him. Pan will always have a space in my heart. It's probably because I used to daydream about being a faerie princess or something when I was a kid. Plus I like to act like the creepy hand/eye monster at home. Walk around like that when I don't have my glasses on.

so Devil's Backbone is definitely something i should check out, it seems to be in some good-standing.

Are you serious? Kung Fu movies are like...by definition one of the simplest and most formulaic kinds of movies. You'd have to be on insane amounts of benzos to be confused by the storyline of one.

I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

"guy stole my Ginseng!"
*two hour operatic romp through the streets of China*

Quite possibly the only kung fu movie I've ever seen with even a mildly confusing storyline, if only cuz it goes in such strange directions.

Not strictly kung fu, but A Chinese Ghost Story and Peking Opera Blues have confusing as hell storylines.

Chinese film is awesome.
The Story of Qiu Ju Ju Dou Farewell My Concubine Raise the Red Lantern Hero
classics. still gotta see Yi Yi though. fuck i should not have discarded it.
and Blue Kite and Yellow Earth too. i had them and then i got rid of them! whhhhhat a doofus.
i miss when Allmovie had the links to lists of movies based on their Country (of origin) i don't know why they got rid of that. i wouldn't have seen not nearly the same breadth of awesome movies if it wasn't for that. wish i could have bookmarked it...luckily there is a good compilation of British films i could look at, but is it as comprehensive, i don't know.
and Germany and Spain and Italy, so many i miss out on now...luckily i remember most of the greats from Italy and like Russia and stuff, because they're more well known...but British and German and Spanish classics don't get enough love.
Allmovie kinda sucks now, but it's made some improvements. slight improvements. still, i wanna be able to search West Germany and get classic old school German film.
i still haven't seen Das Boot...what a crime.
