So im about to make a bulk sub and I have a lot of straw, verm, and coir. Can I mix the three straw verm coir with no problems pasturized of course. What mix of the 3 would be the best or should I leave one out? Any adive would be greatly appriciated

I personally would leave out the straw so you don't have to pasteurize. Just do coir and verm. Gypsum is highly recommended as well.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17325780#17325780
Coir does not germinate mold spores. So you can get away with sterilizing this recipe or using the bucket tek as well.

It's fine if you do, just not necessary.
Straw you will have to chop up then soak before pasteurizing with the c/v. If you're just using c/v you can skip all that and save time.

Here you go dude, just posted a thread on this yesterday.
Coir/verm/gypsum can be heat treated with boiling water, straw needs to be proper pasturized.
I mix the two together afterwards.
I go 1 brick coir, 2 quarts verm, hand full gypsum, 4 quarts boiling water in a bucket.. cover wil lid mix it up well as it cools.
I cut up my straw into 1-3 inch peices, and put in a 5 gallon bucket like I do my coir. I fill the bucket with water and a little dish soap and soak it for a few hours to overnight. I drain the straw.
Next I heat up a big pot of water u ntill 175-180 degrees. I pour it into the straw and set a timer for 1 hour. After a half hour I check the temp to make sure its still well above 140, but a 5 gallon bucket full of water and straw with a lid on usually holds for an hour.
It needs to stay between 140 and 170 for an hour, not higher or lower for more than a few minutes, and not longer than an hour.
I drain the straw, cool with water and drain again. Then I mix into the coir very evenly. You can put as much as or as little as you like. I usually add 25-30 percent straw.
Check out my thread it goes thru this with pictures

Personally I would use just straw for your substrate. Then case it with coir verm when it reaches 100%. Straw kicks ass

Yeah. Based on those 3 ingredients. Straw, manure is my favorite bulk substrate. But just straw cased with coir will do really well. Straw holds an ass load of water.

agreed with muda, straw on it's own is a grreat sub, mixing the 3 would be great too but straw holds tons of water and puts some monsters out

Yea I get huge fruits with straw!!
I love using straight straw if Im doing a few tubs. But man I hate chopping it all up hahaha that's whyI much prefer mixing it into something like CVG or poo. 25, 50 % .. more, less all my tubs benefit from it!

That's why I buy preshredded straw. It's way more expensive than bails but still a hell of a lot cheaper than coir or Verm.

Where do you get that from?
I usually chop mine up by hand. I grab big handfuls and fold them up and clip them I up w garden shears But it doesn't take too long to fill a couple 5 gal buckets, and thats all I use for 4 or 5 tubs mixed into coir.
Bigger amounts I use a weedwhacker and trash can hahaha
I would love pre shredded!!

I found it at a truck wash that cleans livestock trailers. It's a local product but if you live close to an agricultural area you should be able to get something similar.

I have a similar deal going on for wheat straw. One of the feed stores I frequent for grain and bran is on the way to the horse pasture and has a few trailers that they store the wheat straw in. They let me come through and sweep the straw that is on the floor, gather it into trash bags and take it home for free. Cool thing about the straw from the floor of the trailer is that the straw is already chopped down a bit.

That's cool. The thing I like about my straw is its so clean and dust free. At some point I'll likely just buy a shredder though. I build barns for a living and spend all my time on farms. I could get my straw for free if I just used bails.

Straight straw has worked well for my outdoor beds. I have a nice flush of about 15-20 coming in right now and some of them look to be monsters. Should be harvesting today or tomorrow, i'll take some pics. Most of the ones i've gotten from another bed of mine are 2-3g dry and i got one 9 gram that came up on it's own out of the side of the bed.
If you decide to go straw with a casing i would say look into the risks of coir as a casing, i hear it is more nutritional than verm and peat so it can become contaminated more easily. Works well as a sub though. I case my beds with 50/50+. And as for gypsum, i soak the rye in gypsum at the start. I would suggest a casing from the start if you're using straw, i've heard it contaminates rather easily. Mixing the coir in with the straw probably wouldn't hurt if you already have it, maybe look around and see what results others have gotten with that mix. Good luck

Coir is about the moste contam resistant substrate or casing you can use. When I case with it. I don't even heat treat it. Peat will grow mold much more easilly and needs to be PH buffered and pasteurized. The only problem with using coir as a casing is it can become fully colonised if applied too soon.

Not sure on the exact amount, I'd say somewhere around 6-10 qts of rye probably closer to 10. These beds were from contaminated jars. I have a hepa on the way and should have a flow good built in a week or so
