Electric Pressure Cooker Safe and Effective Sterilization.

Hello I'm a beginner and was curious about whether my electric pressure cooker could sterilize my jars of brown rice flour, vermiculite and water properly and safely. And some tips on the best way to use this tool to sterilize if anyone has used it before. Thanks a bunch this community has been a really helpful source in finding information and distinguishing proven fact from experimental grows so I thank all of you. Here are some pics of my EPC (Electric Pressure Cooker).

But hell life's right in front of me, nothing to look forward to. Best of luck to all.

The pressure cooker has a canning/preserving setting that reaches 12 psi and 241 F will this be strong enough? Thanks, Andrew.

It'll be great for BRF jars.
For grains we use 20-25 psi. You could still do grains at 12 psi, but you have to cook for at least 3 hours instead of 90 minutes.

I am curious about the sterilization process and what I should and should not do I have seen a lot of methods, like should I use masking tape or any covering like micro-pore tape over the whole's of my jars, and should put tin foil on the lids and if so when should I and when shouldn't I, thanks a lot I really hope to give my mushrooms the healthiest life possible.

If doing the PF tek, you will/should have a dry Verm barrier inside your jars so there is no need for micropore tape...but you can put it on there if you'd like...the foil should be on your jars doing pc'ing or steaming but it should be removed afterwards.

Thanks a lot and would masking tape work or does that put the jars at risk? Sorry for the all of the questions but how high would yall recommend I fill the water on this PC it says for canning/preserving to fill water 1/4 way up the jar but I'm not preserving I need gas exchange so I don't know what to do any help would help me a great deal.

I wouldn't trip on the tape...as for your pressure cooker idk I have never used one like yours...fill it to where it says to, run it for however long you plan on running your jars...then check how much water you lost in that amount of time...make sure you put a little more than whatever amount you came up with...

2nd hand and Thrift stores are good for deals if you don't mind searching around. Serious, high capacity units can be had cheap with a little time and luck.
Don't know if Australia has Goodwill type stores? online or in a regular store for $50 in Australia may be a challenge.

You'll quickly learn you need to upgrade to a good PC just as I did. I did brf jars once and then decided to go monotubs and grain quart jars. Problem is, we can barely fit 1 quart jar in those electric pcs and even at that 3 hours is just stupid for one jar so I went and bought a aa915 and I outgrew that so I just bought an aa930 for $118 shipped on ebay (fits 10 quart jars). It's a good investment man. Consider it. GL

Go online. Craigslist or kijiji. In Canada prestos cost 150+shipping which comes out to like over $200. I found one online secondhand for $30.

Thanks for the tip I ran my PC today and could definitely run safely with enough water left after PCing to have jars a 1/2 inch or so above water. Can I use aluminum foil inside the water of the PC I was going to use layers or jar lids and foil "plates". Thanks again, Andrew.

hmm..maybe don't wanna sign off with ur name there, eh?
if u use aluminum, it needs to be little balls so the jars are elevated, not just a single strip of aluminum laid down. jar lids are pretty easy to use, but if u wanna make aluminum things u can.

I got tired of using foil balls in my small PC because my agar would be uneven sometimes, so I bought some cheap 88 cent reusable round baking pans. Traced out the correct size with a sharpie, cut them out with snips and drilled a bunch of 3/4 holes in them. Now I can put down a layer of rings, one of those, put a layer of pp5s in, another one on top and another layer of pp5s. They work great, I'd post a pic but they are in use right now.

Please do post a picture or two, my agar has been coming out uneven lately and I am looking for a cheap way to make a rack like you described.
