It's not . I dunno why people always try to use it in certain arguments. It really has nothing to do with quality of life. Minimum wage is to make sure employers aren't running sweatshops more or less. It's to make sure employees are being fairly compensated for the work they do.
This is coming from a person who really isn't qualified for much above minimum wage, but do you feel burger flippers should be paid like 15 dollars an hour? Around here, entry level construction pays around 10 an hour, entry level refinery work is at about 15 an hour. Both of those jobs are far more difficult and dangerous than standing in front of a grill all day. Texas minimum wage is like 7 something an hour. I really don't feel burger flippers even deserve that much right out of the gate.

I make like a grand a month. I would be sitting, no internet or weed, in a dark room eating noodles if I wasn't being helped, waiting for work just to rip me from my life. It's terrible. I feel like doing bad things in response to my work/pay ratio. Nothing specific, but a grand a month in the US makes you a slave. Streight up, you are under corperate control. Fuck walmart, I hope Sam Walton and all his family die a slow cancerous death. What a joke of a place, what a terrible giant company. Fucking exausted for next to nothing. Why arent there shootings over this every day? People need to be more entitled if they work
And what is the point of working if you can't live on it Zapp? To be 'motivated'? There arent enough spots up higher, nowhere to go anyway, way more responsibility and time lost forever, and what about in the fucking mean time when you are unable to live? Noone seems to be able to comprehend time.
It grates on me every second wasted for my meger check.
Apostol, yoir second sentamce is disgusting. Go be homeless, and tell the nasty street people how great they have it
I spend a bit on weed, but not as much as rent could be. When your broke you need comfort, and anyone who takes a broke person and picks apart their finances saying they should cut back to nothing can fuck off. I wosn they would say it to me, oh god I would spit on them.

Typically in those higher rent places living wage is also higher. For example, san francisco has a lot of silicon valley jobs like programming which pays top dollar.

minimum wage can't serve two purposes?
Its not like everyone can move up to the good jobs. We need those people at the bottom. It'd be nice if they could live better. There certainly seems to be enough money in the world..

Its more than enough to live on. It affords the worker more resources than the bulk of humanity live on. Its not enough to live the lifestyle one sees on TV, thus the bitching ensues.

You don't eat money, you eat resources. It would be nice if they could live better, but there is not enough resources in the world for that to be applied across the board.

Most people working "at the bottom" are working jobs that wont be around in the future due to automation. We don't need them.

What a retarded thing to say. People live on that. Great, I make 1000, so here is 5-800 for rent, 200 for food, and I'm broke. It isn't much momey, 15 an hour. Gotta pay utilities, amd some people have kids amd stuff I don;t want a 'tv' lofestyle, just enough that I can save, as opposed to being broke right before my next check Buncha people here who don't know anything

so you are angry because you have no real skill set and never went to college and feel that Walmart should be the one to bear that burden? You could have had it all, but you did nothing with the opportunity you got when you won the genetic lottery and were born here. So you sir, get nothing. Welcome to America.
Good day.

I'm sorry if you're a current burger flipper with no ambition to ever rise above burger flipper status but if you really believe that burger flippers deserve $15 an hour for flipping a goddamn meat patty then you're delusional as fuck.

A bachelor pad has never been the norm for the majority. Yet now we expect it... I even saw a bunch of posts somewhere once claiming that minimum wage should be able to afford a two bedroom apartment... wtf?
I don't oppose the idea of a minimum wage. But our minimum wage affords one to be the in top 10% of resource consumers. To think that just by being an employed American one deserves more than 90% of humanity is nationalist bigotry.

That's why you get a roommate, and shop the sales for food. A single person can easily eat for $100 a month. Say 400-450 for a shared apartment. That leaves 500-550 for gas, insurance, a cell phone, and other things.
It's kinda ridiculous to expect to be able to have your own apartment, splurge on food, have a smart phone, etc etc working a no-low skilled min wage job.

Tough shit. Stop being such a worthless cypher and learn a skill that others might value. How long have been in the workforce that you still suck so much that you make minimum wage?. Nobody has a right to live in an expensive city. Should federal minimum wage be higher in NY than Peoria? Should it be higher if you have kids?
Almost nobody makes minimum wage anyway except for total losers and kids.

You just described a 'tv' lifestyle.... Most people don't live the way you described. There isnt enough food, water, land, oil, building materials and other resources for everybody to have that lifestyle you describe. If you live that way, some other family necessarily must live without all that.
