There is a reason why Canada is cheaper. There is not a lot of demand.

The specifics on the NY construction industry are irrelevant. It is impossible for there to be enough construction jobs to match the population. Please tell me how construction is supposed to go on indefinitely despite the limited supply of natural resources.

The more people the more housing you need. The more the existing housing ages the more it needs repair and maintenance. As a percent of the overall population construction jobs will remain fairly static.

For the most part I agree. Perfect example is the industry I work in. Marijuana. Shits booming right now and people are trying to come up with ways to improve the industry. Enter the automatic trimming machine. Yes a machine that can trim faster than most people upping production. Here is why it didn't work out...
Quality. A machine will never ever put out the same quality as someone who is well trained in what they do and does their job well. Just won't happen and the visible difference in the medicine was there. Even effected the testing numbers and quality of the concentrates from the fucked up sugar leaf

Terrible argument. We all live in reality bro. All our ideas can't correspond with it.

I don't know why you are acting like automation won't become a big thing in the near future. You are aware of the pace at which technology progresses right? You are aware of the rate of population growth right?
So if we are to grant that my scenario will play out, it is somehow still the fault of all those who can't get a job when they literally don't exist? Hmm, yeah. Makes perfect sense.

Real talk, have you tried Craigslist? At one point I posted an ad for work wanted stating my limited IT experience (at the time), that I was willing to do grunt work (tech documentation, code clean up, you know the shit NO ONE wants to do) and gave a salary request of about 15k less than the going rate for the area.
I got a good amount of responses, one from a company willing to take me on and help me get Oracle certification and another start-up who would have plopped me in front of PERL. I got a job offer soon after the ad, but I thanked the gents and added them on LinkedIn just in case.
You'd be amazed how many opportunities exist if you put yourself out there and are honest to potential employers, but more importantly honest with yourself. I knew I couldn't expect to make "top coder" money and I was willing to be bottom bitch for the experience and the ability to learn as much as possible.
Keep looking and don't be afraid to get unconventional with the job search. Sometimes no experience means they won't have to un-teach you certain habits. You're a tabula rasa and many times, employees remain more grateful and loyal for that opportunity.

You're ridiculous. Robots becoming self aware and taking over is not the same thing as an automated workforce.

Dude, join us here in 2015. Time moves on. Limited means that they don't go on forever, not that we don't have them right now.

Yeah obviously you were making fun of it. Just because I don't respond as expected to your "jokes" doesn't mean they went over my head. Your comments show that you don't take automation seriously at all. Keep repeating it, you're slowly convincing me. I'm not talking about fault. I'm saying that the jobs just won't be there. You can't get a non-existent job no matter how hard you try. Goddamn.

There is no reason to believe that even this are will run out of space. Manhattan hs a shit ton of skyscrapers. Brooklyn Queens and the Bronx do not. Staten Island has rural areas, for fucks sake, and then there is Long Island and upstate. There is no shortage of space. You have no clue at all what you're talking about.
