that's really really interesting, i sometimes feel the same way, i thought I was the only one this whole time.
caffeine sometimes has a similar effect on me too
it's a blessing in disguise because it makes it easier to quit them

Maybe it's just my computer, but the poll says I can't vote until 4:28 AM.

yeah, i have no idea why that happens.
when i made the poll, the only thing i did was check the 'must vote to view results' box.
i didnt specify any beginning or end date
i did just try editing the poll to start from OCT 2 instead of OCT 3 and that didnt fix it

When I was smoking, yes they calmed me down. I don't think it was the cigarettes themselves as much as it just meant I'd sit my uppity ass down and take a few dozen breaths to get over the initial rage. Same goes for anxiety, it's just a different end of the spectrum.

I only really enjoy smoking cigarettes when I'm on a cocktail of potent drugs, which is only once in a blue moon nowadays
But as a regular everyday pack a day smoker I hated it, and every cigarette I smoked made me hate myself more and more
It wasn't always like that though, I smoked for years without feeling that guilt, then I had an extremely powerful solo acid trip and it flipped a switch in my brain and ever since that night I came to hate being a smoker, I came to hate being hardly able to breathe or taste food, I came to hate being dragged out in the cold every 15 minutes for something that was fucking killing me anyway
But I couldn't quit cold turkey
I tried, many many times but it was never a realistic solution for me.. I always cracked
Then I bought a vaporizer and suddenly I didn't need cigarettes anymore
Fast forward 11 months to now and physically I feel so much better I can't even begin to describe it

Thanks man
I'm not gonna go around trying to convince smokers to start vaping anymore, but honestly it is a really fucking good idea
I didn't really have faith in it as a smoker but once I got a good device with good juice that was it, I was free of my addiction to tobacco
Granted I didn't truly quit, I merely replaced one addiction for another, and I admit to that
But the way I look at it is I never truly quit nicotine, I simply switched to a safer, more effective method of delivery
As a smoker your nicotine levels are constantly rising and falling like the crests and troughs of a wave, this causes the anger, irritability, withdrawals, cravings etc.
As a vaper my nicotine levels are highly consistent throughout the day, I do not go through vape withdrawal, I can go all day without vaping and all I get is a slight craving to have a vape
Don't get me wrong vapes are definitely highly addictive, nicotine in general is an extremely addictive drug but it is not harmful to the body when ingested through vapor

Pretty much exactly this. If I'm so sad I'm bawling and I go sit down outside and have a cigarette, it calms me down. I don't know how much of the calming effect is actually from the cigarrette, but the entiety of the act itself calms me.

It works if I'm raging mad. Idk about for general anxiety though.
But if I get really angry, and I smoke a cigarette, the first hit will usually calm me down.

i actually just quit 4 days ago for this specific reason, besides the obvious health issues. every single cigarette jacked my anxiety up 10x unless i was with a close friend, even if i was alone. they actually relaxed me before i quit the first time, so i dont know what happened. all i know is no moar tobacco for me

Cigarettes make me concentrate All in all I feel like I am much sharper if I smoke while doing something however a E-Cig just doesn't enhance my attention to detail and thoroughness the same way a cigarette will. My art suffered a bit when I moved to E-Cig.
Apparently they are also nootropics.

I love cigarettes and smoking but it is a nasty, harmful and sometimes disgusting habit.

in the short run, while u're smoking them, yes. but in the long run they just worsen ur anxiety.
the cigarettes are the reason why u feel the need to smoke cigarettes when u're anxious, they play both sides of the fence. they are the disease and the cure.

I dropped the smokes and picked up the vape. I use no flavour and strong juice with a high quality vaporiser. Kicks ass all over the smokes and it's not killing me with tar also. Win win.

Are you sure that it isn't the withdrawal from nicotine that caused the anger issues?
I also wonder if the people that say vapes don't have this calming effect is due to the fact that vapes don't produce carbon monoxide, which, as we all know, if you breath in too much of it, will calm you down to the point of death.

That is correct
My vape definitely has a calming effect on me though not in the same way as a cigarette
But I'm a very high-strung individual in general, nicotine has always been my fix since I started smoking at the tender age of 13

I voted yes and no on your polls; when I'm a regular smoker they calm me down and when I am not they tend to trigger an anxious response. I think it's because nicotine feels completely different when you're a regular smoker compared to a nonsmoker. Lots of nicotine will fuck you up if you're not a smoker.

Smoking increases heartrate and blood pressure so while it numbs the mind, it doesnt exactly calm you down.

Heart rate and blood pressure are almost irrelevant to not being calm. They are pretty much just symptoms of not being calm. I've never personally known them to instill a level of unrest in me and I smoked for over 20 years.
There are quite a few drugs that actually make me go from a calm state to an agitated one, but cigarettes have never been one.

Tied, yes. Cause, I don't believe so. In fact I just Googled it, and every page I came across only talks about how stress/unease causes an increased heart rate, not an increased heart rate causing stress/unease.Quote:
hex_enduction said: Jesus, aren't you just 29-30? Did you really start smoking before age 10?
I started when I was 6. Can't remember if I was inhaling at that time, but both of my grandparents smoked and one day I got the idea in my head that it must be fun since they always did it. So I grabbed their carton of cigarettes they always kept on top of the desk and a lighter and went outside and started smoking them. By 13 or 14 I was already a pack a day smoker. Not sure exactly what age I started inhaling, I think I can remember doing it around 8, could of been earlier, could've been later. I know by 10 or so I was inhaling. At 12 I was at least up to half a pack a day.
Grandparents couldn't stop me, they tried, made me smoke enough to get myself sick, gave me extremely harsh punishments, they basically did everything they could think of (short of stop smoking themselves) and I would still just steal their cigarettes and didn't give a damn if they knew I did. They tried locking them up, I learned how to pick a lock. 100% dead serious. At some point they just gave up, and started supplying them to me since I was just gonna do it anyways.

Its all in how you smoke the cigarette. People who take long slow drags get a more relaxing effect, people who take quick puffs tend to get a more stimulating effect. There is a study somewhere out there stating this, but fuck if i can find it.
