But if I get really angry, and I smoke a cigarette, the first hit will usually calm me down.
Are you sure that it isn't the withdrawal from nicotine that caused the anger issues?
I also wonder if the people that say vapes don't have this calming effect is due to the fact that vapes don't produce carbon monoxide, which, as we all know, if you breath in too much of it, will calm you down to the point of death.

That is correct
My vape definitely has a calming effect on me though not in the same way as a cigarette
But I'm a very high-strung individual in general, nicotine has always been my fix since I started smoking at the tender age of 13

I voted yes and no on your polls; when I'm a regular smoker they calm me down and when I am not they tend to trigger an anxious response. I think it's because nicotine feels completely different when you're a regular smoker compared to a nonsmoker. Lots of nicotine will fuck you up if you're not a smoker.

Smoking increases heartrate and blood pressure so while it numbs the mind, it doesnt exactly calm you down.

Heart rate and blood pressure are almost irrelevant to not being calm. They are pretty much just symptoms of not being calm. I've never personally known them to instill a level of unrest in me and I smoked for over 20 years.
There are quite a few drugs that actually make me go from a calm state to an agitated one, but cigarettes have never been one.

Take a beta blocker and see if you don't feel calm as can be. Heartrate is directly tied into stress, anxiety and unease.

Jesus, aren't you just 29-30? Did you really start smoking before age 10?

Tied, yes. Cause, I don't believe so. In fact I just Googled it, and every page I came across only talks about how stress/unease causes an increased heart rate, not an increased heart rate causing stress/unease.Quote:

I started when I was 6. Can't remember if I was inhaling at that time, but both of my grandparents smoked and one day I got the idea in my head that it must be fun since they always did it. So I grabbed their carton of cigarettes they always kept on top of the desk and a lighter and went outside and started smoking them. By 13 or 14 I was already a pack a day smoker. Not sure exactly what age I started inhaling, I think I can remember doing it around 8, could of been earlier, could've been later. I know by 10 or so I was inhaling. At 12 I was at least up to half a pack a day.
Grandparents couldn't stop me, they tried, made me smoke enough to get myself sick, gave me extremely harsh punishments, they basically did everything they could think of (short of stop smoking themselves) and I would still just steal their cigarettes and didn't give a damn if they knew I did. They tried locking them up, I learned how to pick a lock. 100% dead serious. At some point they just gave up, and started supplying them to me since I was just gonna do it anyways.

Its all in how you smoke the cigarette. People who take long slow drags get a more relaxing effect, people who take quick puffs tend to get a more stimulating effect. There is a study somewhere out there stating this, but fuck if i can find it.
